Question about Vacuums

When I plug in my power cord the light comes on but when I engage the presser foot nothing happens. This happened before so I bought a new presser foot and no problem however now it has happened with the new presser foot. It worked and then didn't. We piddled with it and it worked again. Now it has stopped working again. Any ideas?

I am seeing many people have had this issue with the foot pedal, I think they just used shabby materials in the foot pedal and they just quickly wear out unfortunately. That is definitely what is going on with yours here.

Why does nothing happen when power button pushed?

The Dyson cords are known to go bad, test the cord and see if there is voltage. If this is too mechanical for you, please take the vacuum to your nearest vacuum repair shop

I have a Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Series upright. When I plug it in it will not come on. Bought new in 2004.

First make sure the hose or nozzle is installed properly so the switch lever is pushed in all the way. Then check the bag emptor to make sure it is pushed all the way in to engage the switch lever. Both of those are safety features so your machine will not run if they are not properly engaged. If they are correct then check your power cord to make sure it is working properly.

Power wont come on

Look for a reset button, inspect the cord and if it failed while on make sure whatever it uses for a filter is not blocked with dirt.

My miele shuts off and/or will not start unless i wiggle the cord and get lucky. what can i do at home? i have no money to bring it to a service center.

If you think you're going to get to me that way ... you're right!
Soft-touch is my middle name. :-)

I can think of a few possibilities.
- The AC outlet where you plug the vacuum may be faulty. - Not uncommon.
- The plug on the power cord may be either loose or the blades may be corroded. - Most likely.
- The power cord may have a break in it. - Probable.

Let's eliminate the possibilities.
1. Plug something else in the AC outlet and see if shaking the cord does anything.
Is the appliance on regardless you shaking the cord?

2. With your vac power cord fully extended plug it in.
Step on the cord about half way, and shake the section between your foot and the vacuum.
Anything? Probably not.

3. Now shake the section between your foot and the AC outlet.
Anything? Probably yes.

I suspect the problem is in, or very near, the plug itself. The new molded plugs tend to go like that.
Take hold of the cable about a foot from the plug and gently move it pushing lightly towards the wall. The vac will likely come on.

If that's the case, all you need is a replacement plug that's in good shape, and a good samaritan-ess to replace it for you. Unless of course you're the handy type.

If it is a three prong plug, make sure to use the same type.

Our G3 Kirby will not power up?

Either the cord or the switch is bad. The cord is simple. Take the tab screw on the back of the machine off and the screw holing the cord cover off. Pop off the cord cover un-plug and remove then reverse steps to replace. If it is the switch that is better left to proffesionals so call your local vacuum shop.
