You can use any size hard drive supported by your operating system. For 32-bit Windows systems, the limit is 2TB, but large if you have a 64-bit OS.

What OS are you using? If this is a Windows system (or non-Apple, at any rate), what does the BIOS say about the HD size?

Something has become corrupt. You might not make it out "alive".

Thinkpad T42 Hard Disk problem

Hello.

It seems the hard disk size will max out at 80GB with a 5,400 RPM speed according to IBM.

Im sorry to say that this means that it will not support a 120Gb hard drive.

SATA hard disk size

Your Motherboard is SATA 1.0 - If you select a newer 2.0 drive you will have to place the 1.5gb jumper on the drive to be visible to the bios and operate at 1.5 instead of 3.0 gbs - http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=ms-7043&table=download
this is the link to the manual and drivers for your mobo
The other option is to purchase an updated SATA 2.0 controller card and then you can support all the new size HD's - here is the link to one such card for $29.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2254079&CatId=1455 - if you are not ready to update the mobo, then this is a great solutions

K8V-MX motherboard+HDD size limit

yes the mother board supports SATA However if you connect large Disks to the SATA connectors they are recognized correctly with full size. So leave your 500g and less HDs on the IDE and the big ones on the SATA. you can check this link for the manual for more information ftp://ftp.chiligreen.com/Desktop/Manuals/manual_a_k8v-mx.pdf hope this helps .thanks and Godbless pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa

Max size sata drive for pcchips a31g

Hi Jason_UK, the motherboard revision does not matter in regards to the SATA size. (The board does support SATA).
2TB is a limit imposed by the MBR partition table. Assuming the disk uses 512 sectors.
If the sector size is increased to 4KB, the limit becomes 16TB. Suggest you setup your serial ATA SATA disk drives by downloading the manufactures bootable floppy disk setup software. Most SATA manufactures also provide bootable CD software if you do not have a floppy drive in your system. You will be able to change the size of the clusters allowing you to have access to the entire drive. The floppy software will also allow you to format the disk & there are other features that can be turned on or off. Neither windows nor the bios can make these changes.

Good luck Jason!
Mike
