There is intermittent squeeking when the dryer is in operation. Is this the drum bearing or the drive belt? How do I access both to check?

Dryer is squeeking

Hi

The motor bearings may be worn. Remove the drum drive belt and then start the dryer. If it squeals with the belt off then the motor bearings are likely worn.

There is a small roller that tightens the drive belt for the drum. They can squeak. Remove the lower front panel and you should see the small roller near the motor and belt.
Another is the two larger rollers that support the drum. You will see this if you remove the front lower panel. Another is where the drum rides on the upper round part of the door/opening and it has a plastic guide that separates the metal drum from the metal door/opening. Over time this wears out and the two metal pieces will squeak.

Ge frontloader dryer is squeeking incessantly, high pitch squeek driving us all crazy. by manually turning the drum i can isolate the squeek, but cannot see anything wrong. does it need to be taken...

There is a teflon bearing that holds the back of the drum you will need to replace. To get to it remove the top cover, take off the control panel, remove the front cover, take off the belt, then take the drum out, ususlly by lifting it up as you pull it foward. While have it all apart I would reccomend replacing the teflon glides at the front that the drum rides on.

Dryer still squeeking after I replaced the drum bearing

more than likely tensioning pulley on the drive belt, lubricate with bearing grease or replace if badly worn.

When my dryer is running i hear a loud metal on metal squeeking, like something (coin perhaps) caught between the drum and the frame. how do i open it up to check?

Your drum bearing has woren off. You take the dryer off from the front. Take the tension of the belt, and replace the drum bearing.

I have GE profile Model DPSR473EW with loud squeak when drum turns ? I also need to learn how to access the drum etc...

I have experienced two problems with "loud squeeks" with the DPSR473EW. First, if you take the top off (open door, remove two screws under top door lip releasing the top), then.., remove two small screws (inside up high - one on each side) holding the front panel/door assembly on. Pull the front panel/door assy away from the main unit - can't seperate due to some wires near the blower. On the door/front panel assy..., you will see four "teflon slides" that fit into a plastic semi-circular assy (the drum rides on those four teflon slides). Most of the time, this is where the squeeks come from - I've seen them worn thru..., and the drum riding on the plastic (just order the teflon slides - qty 4 - WE1M333). If the plastic piece that the slides fit into is worn, replace it - WE2M26 (top bearing). This should do it. If the slides look OK (so the squeek hasn't been fixed), the other place for a squeek is...., the back bearing. This bearing is basically a male rotating plastic sleeve running in a metal female hole. I have seen those wear thru the plastic bushing..., causing lots of noise. To inspect that bearing, you will need to a) remove the belt (plenty of instructions on the internet), then b)remove the drum..., then..., you can inspect that back bearing (two pieces - one piece on the back of the drum, the female piece mounted on the heater shroud.. If you need to replace that bearing, or one half of it - you can order pn WE25M40 - it will have both pieces. Good Luck

Squeeking noise when on.

I think the drum drive belt is slipping. Other possibilities are: A drum support wheel bearing could need lubrication or be replaced. Also some drum support wheels have a rubber coating that wears off causing misalignment and noise. Possibly drum gasket (sometimes felt material) where drum meets rear panel is worn allowing metal-to-metal contact--should be replaced. See the following for info about dryer repair including belt replacement:http://home.howstuffworks.com/how-to-repair-a-dryer.htm

My series 80 dryer squeaks

do not lubricate anything in a dryer you will damage .locate the the squeek if it is coming from the rear of the unit most likly need to replace the drum support or wheels if its intermittant and has a squeek squeeek noise that either gets worse or goes away when the dryer heats up the tensioner pully or the moter berrings are bad

Dryer squeekes on and off

Hello.

Intermittent squeaking usually arises from drum rollers, a bearing at the back of the tub or the pulley for the belt. Locate where the squeak is coming from the loudest and you can narrow down the cause.

Loud in the back middle: Drum bearing kit

Loud in the back bottom: Drum rollers.

Loud in the top front: Drum glides

Lound in the bottom front: Belt pulley.

Dryer makes noise when turning like bearings going or belt squeek

Hi,
check the following -
It's noisy
If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel

Rollers
Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley
Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides
Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing
Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel
Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

good luck.....

Squeaks from drum area during operation

Hi there!

I think it is the drum main bearing that has started to sieze.

If it is not this, then the drive belt may need replacement.

If this leads to a solution, please take a moment to accept. Thank you.
