Online play is very choppy and I often get kicked off line.

Hello,
There are a number of things that can cause this, namely your internet speed.

Make sure you have high speed internet with at least 10mbps download and 1mbps upload for best results. Game play can also be affected by wireless. If you are connected to your router via wireless, try using a network cable instead. If your wireless signal quality varies a lot it can cause disruptions in your connection. If you have any P2P programs running such as emule, limewire, torrents, etc... Shut them down as they tend to sap your upload speed which in turn, affects your game. If your computer is not that fast and doesn't play the game without online mode very well, it could be worse online being you are now rendering more elements into the game. Lastly, EA Servers may be over loaded at peak hours which could also affect your game play.

Check your internet speed here http://www.speedtest.net and also your link quality here: http://www.pingtest.net

Make sure your ping is at least below 80ms and your link quality is A or C. Any less and you may have trouble playing some online games. And again, for the speed, it's good to have at least 10mbps download and 1mbps upload. My connection is 50mbps download and 3mbps upload with ping grade A and ping 3ms, so I have never had any problems myself with online games and real-time streaming J

Hope this helps!
Chris

I can get my playstation network online with my hughes net HN9000 modem but it wont join any games. Is there anything you can do to get to play online with a ps3?

You may have a weak internet connection or the playstation network/ game servers may be down. Make sure you have updated your ps3 to rule out that possiblity. You may want to try going to settings>network settings> internet connection test. If you have a weak signal strength, you may want to try moving the modem closer/ point it closer to the ps3. My download speed shows 2.1Mbps and upload 647kbps which is fairly average and don't usually have a problem. I find that sometimes I cannot connect due to the time of day (too many users onlie at the same time in your area may slow down your internet speed), for this reason I always have more luck playing later at night or earlier in the morning which may or may not be an option for you. Hope this helps!

I'm in the middle of online-play and suddenly get signed off of the PS Network. So far it has only happened with Red Dead Redemption but I don't really play other games online.

Please check your connection to the Internet from your PS3. Many times, when a lot users are playing the same online games, they will be turned away, lose connectivity, or not be able to log in. Again the main reason for this is there is A lot OF ONLINE TRAFFIC to that same site. Many times, a paying member may receive a dedicated connection to the online game site so that they do not experience getting booted off the network. Last, ensure to check your internet connection at home by removing power from the router, and restarting both your pc systems as well as your PS3. Once you do this, you will reset the system in order to REQUEST A NEW IP ADDRESS for your internet service provider. I can bet my last dollar that your going to experience a much better game play time. Come back to me for more free advice if your still have an issue.
THANK YOU

My internet connection works just fine but when i try to get online from resistance:fall of man, it says something like connection lost or something

Perhaps your internet connection speed isn't fast enough or there is too much latency on your connection. On any computers/gaming consoles that are on the network try to disconnect them from the internet while you try to play your game.

When playing Halo3 online the game jumps or freezes regularly so becomes almost impossible to play.

Normally that is a sign of a low connection to your internet. Normally referred to as "Lagging". Either your internet connection is low, or the Host in which your playing your online game off of has a low connection.

All this being said if the game works fine off line.

Check your Internet Connection, making sure it is a Strong connection.

Internet issues i have a seemingly similar problem. when playing a multiplayer network game, i can go only about 1 minute or two before i get disconnected from the server. seems like i'm losing packets...

Sounds like your exceed your bandwidth when you play online. Like you said you having packet loss cause you are not transmitting and receiving all the info due to your connection. And if you play more than one, two, or three pc at one time then you just cut your bandwidth severely. I recommend you check on your upload speed. If you have 128k up and playing multiple pc it will bottleneck.

Go do a speed test-- www.speakeasy.net post back your results

My son has problems playing on line and blames the internet provider ( orange) would it work better with another internet provider ?

for playing games online and in real time you need a good internet connection with good download and upload speeds..a speed of 1MBPS should be quite good..do find out from Orange what speed they are giving..or check the speed in http://speedtest.net/..also if other applications are connected to the internet can affect speed and quality..like other network computers, downloads etc..if the speed is less you can always change the internet plan..some ISP are quite game friendly eg for Xbox live..hope it helps!
