Question about Washing Machines

Kenmore Elite HE5t Washer Door is locked, Cycle didn't run, Won't power down

I set our HE5t to run with the following settings: Heavy Duty, Cool Water, Extended Spin on Highest Spin, with Prewash, and delayed it by 6 hours. I have run the delay start several times with phenomenal success. I walked away after pressing start and then realized I needed to add a few things. I returned about 1/2 hour later, added the few things, then closed the door.

Then I heard a click and the familiar beep sounds it makes, which it should not do until it is ready to officially start the cycle. I looked at the display and no lights are illuminated except the Power button and the Door Locked signal. I have pressed the Stop button, held it down, twiddled the knob, pressed Start. These have ZERO effect. I have pressed the Power button, only to have the washer beep at me. Do I have to call Sears to have a "Professional" come fix it? It is still under warranty. Or is there something simple I can do to reset it?

Thanks! I did the "easy" thing and unplugged the unit and then plugged it back in. All of the programmed settings were still in effect and the door lock released; it was nice to see the display illuminated again. The cycle ran as intended and I have released my clothing. I will call for warranty service anyway.

Click on the following link for advice on how to unlock the washer door by using the manual release.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

Even though your washer probably isn't diaplaying any error codes (according to the symptoms you've provided), the condition still exists where you have a door lock issue. You can try unplugging the washer for about 30 minutes to see if the computer will reset. Sometimes the door lock jams for whatever reason and a manual release and/or power cut off will clear it. If for some reason, the washer still exhibits the same problem after following the advice in the link, any further repairs would be covered depending on the PURCHASE date of your washer. If you do not have a receipt, Sears will determine the date based upon the washer serial number. The serial number indicates the month and year the washer was manufactured. If you provide me with your COMPLETE model number, I can tell you if your washer would still be covered under the manufacturers warranty. I hope you find this information helpful.

Kenmore elite he5t front loading washer door locks, unlocks, then locks again before beginning cycle

This is aself test procedure on the door locking mechanism . You will also hear a click, the drum will make a partial turn, and the door will unlock berore locking again. Once the door has locked a second time the washer will begin tumbling and adding water. The sensing process will continue until the correct amount of water is added to the load.

Sud message

Sud: Suds lock (overdose of detergent detected during wash cycle)
The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the
current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential Suds
Lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load,
excessive detergent, or excessive suds.
Possible causes/procedure:
¦ If too much detergent was used:
-Run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle.
-Run a Normal cycle without adding any detergent.
This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged
or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump,
pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
.

Stopped operating in the spin cycle

With a heavy blanket you probably have an out-of-balance condition which doesn't let the machine spin out and drain. This would keep the door lock from opening. Try hitting the Stop button twice. This should cancel the cycle and let the door lock open after a little while. Then either redistribute the load or add some items and run a Spin and Drain cycle.
