I cannot find Printer Setup Utility. When I go into Applications, then into Utilities, there is no Printer Setup Utility. I even Spotlighted this and nothing came up. Also, According to the intstructions, I should see Networks listed on the left but I do not.

Please clarify, your problem is little confusing, if you have selected 300x300 dpi, then how do you want it to select 600x600 dpi? It might be possible if you've selected 600x600 dpi and reset it to 300x300 dpi, but it won't be possible if you've already selected the lower resolution and to force it to higher resolution.
Awaiting.

Thanks a lot, this is related to the Default Printer, you have to set the default printer to this "Canon MP990". The instructions will not fit in this comment box, so I've prepared a doc file... I've uploaded the file on my google doc folder, (click here) to download, open the link and click the link "Download (101KB)" to download the file, or you can view/read it on your browser.

If you have any problem, let me know. Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Well, is the Printer Setup Utility installed on your Mac? if no, do so. Without Printer Setup Utility being installed, this option will not be suitable for you. Regarding the Network, I don't think it's necessary, the screenshots is not your computer and not the exact printer's model, only as a reference so that you can follow with ease. You need not to select "Share this printer", only select the "Default Printer". I was thinking that you might at least know all these, I am sorry if I had gone too far.

Let me know if you need further help.

I have used last 4 year canon 2900B printer. How to set 300 dpi printing resoluation

Canon PIXMA Manuals MG2900 series Resolution
Resolution The data in the image you have scanned is a collection of dots carrying information about brightness and color. The density of these dots is called "resolution", and resolution will determine the amount of detail your image contains. The unit of resolution is dots per inch (dpi). Dpi is the number of dots per inch (2.5 cm). The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail.

How to Set the Resolution You can set the resolution in Resolution on the (Scanning from a Computer) tab of the Settings dialog.
Appropriate Resolution Settings Set the resolution according to the use of the scanned image.
Item Type Use Color Mode Appropriate Resolution Color photo Copying
(Printing) Color 300 dpi Creating a postcard Color 300 dpi Saving to a computer Color 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Color 150 dpi Black and white photo Saving to a computer Grayscale 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Grayscale 150 dpi Text document (document or magazine) Copying Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 300 dpi Attaching to e-mail Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 150 dpi Scanning text using OCR Color or Grayscale 300 dpi Important
  • If you double the resolution, the data size of the scanned image quadruples. If the file is too large, the processing speed will slow down significantly, and you will experience inconvenience such as lack of memory. Set the minimum required resolution according to the use of the image.
Note
  • When you will be printing the scanned image by enlarging it, scan by setting a higher resolution than the recommended one above.

How do Print a scanned image

This is a complicated issue. You have to understand the computer term DPI, which stands for Dots Per Inch. This applies in three places:
  1. when you scan, you can set this
  2. when you display it on your monitor, your monitor will be usually 72 DPI or 100DPI depending on what resolution your video driver is set to
  3. when you print, it depends what resolution your printer can print at. Your printer can also stretch the image onto the paper by duplicating dots as needed.

Dots = Pixels
In PixWizard, we show you the image size in Dots.

Let's assume you scan at 300 DPI. You scan an 8x10 picture. This is saved as 2400 dots (8" x 300 dots/inch) by 3000 dots (10" x 300). Let's assume your printer is 600DPI. In dots, this is 4800 (8" x 600) by 6000 (10" x 600). For best results, you should scan at 600DPI and set the print options to use a 1:1 scale when printing. Our programs can also stretch the image to fit the entire printable area of your printer.

Addresses do not align with xerox 3r96289 label

What do you mean by addresses?

Are you talking about connection ports, IP addresses, USB addresses?

Do you mean the X&Y addresses on the page itself? If that is what you mean then the resolution of the document must be checked.

For example, if the document is set for 600 X 600 DPI and the printer is set for 1200 X 1200 DPI the image will be severely compressed. Likewise if the document is set for 600 by 600 and the printer is set for 300 x 300 the document will be expanded and sometimes off the page.

You can usually tell by looking at the "PJL" commands on the front end of the job. That's the most common place to set the resolution of the printer. You can also set the image resolution from within the print datastream.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

How do I adjust the darkness of the printing, it is currently set at 2 out of 4 darkness?

You will need to follow below process.
Print quality settings always affects on print resolution and toner usage.
to change print quality setting:
1. go to Start/settings/control panel/printers
2. then go to printer's properties.
3. go to paper/quality TAB. and select the setting that you want to use. you will get following options.
a) 1200 dpi: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
b) 1200 dpi effective output quality: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
c) 600 dpi: This setting provides 600 x 600 dpi output with Resolution Enhancement technology (REt) for improved text. (this is what you may need to get)
d) Economode: this settings use less toner of your printer. This is useful for mostly draft printings. You can turn this button on freely of other printing-quality settings.

Select the needed settings. Test a print.
And if it is perfect you wont be charge to give recommendation...lol

Can't figure out how to adjust darkness/tone for printer output

Hi,
Below you can see a step by step procedure on how to change the print quality of your work....you need to make test printouts in order for you to see the results....at the end there is a link to the manual for your printer...GOOD LUCK!!!

Print-quality settings affect print resolution and toner usage.
Use the following procedure to change print-quality settings:
1. Open the printer Properties (or Printing Preferences in Windows 2000 and XP).
2. On the Paper/Quality tab or the Finishing tab (the Paper Type/Quality tab for some Mac drivers),
select the print quality setting you want to use. The following options are available:
● 1200 dpi: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
● 1200 dpi effective output quality: This setting provides 1200 dpi effective output quality
using FastRes 1200.
● 600 dpi: This setting provides 600 x 600 dpi output with Resolution Enhancement technology
(REt) for improved text.
● EconoMode: Text is printed using less toner. This setting is useful when you are printing
drafts. You can turn on this option independently of other print-quality settings.
