Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My ACER 5315 laptop will not power on. It will charge the batteries ( brand new one and the original which wasn't holding a charge) as indicated by the orange light at beginning changing to green overnight. I have tried the ACER power reset procedure repeatedly to no avail. the power light will not come on whether I try battery and power supply or either alone. It is over two years old and out of warranty, of course. The new battery did work for a couple of weeks. I prefer not to pay $50 for diagnosis if possible.

I may have misspoken. Only the battery light is active. The power light does not come on at all and even though both batteries show green (fully charged) the battery light goes off if I disconnect the power supply. The power supply is working because I have two Acer laptops and it works fine in the other. When the batteries are removed the laptop still will not start. Thank you.

Thank you for your assistance. i am accepting your solution. I will probably junk it since I never pay much more than $250 for a laptop and it doesn't contain any important info and I'll pull the HDD and memory and probably resell the screen.

Hello.

The most common reasons are the power adapter/cord and power jack or a defective battery.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.
The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.
If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

As you indicated, the battery indicator flashes amber or is a steady amber, normally the
battery needs to be charged. If the battery is flashing green and amber, the battery may be defective.

To troubleshoot this problem, use the following procedure.
1. Turn off the computer and peripherals, and disconnect them from AC power.
2. Reseat each installed battery by removing it and then replacing it.
3. Turn on the computer. Does the green power indicator light up?
Allow one minute for the computer to initialize its components before checking for signs of power.
Yes. Continue to step 4.
No. Use the AC adapter to connect your computer to AC power. If the computer operates normally when using AC power, go to step 7.4. Does the battery indicator flash amber or show a a steady amber light?
Yes. The battery needs to be charged. Go step 5.
No. Go to step 7.
6. As the battery charges, does the green battery indicator light up?
Yes. Go to step 9.
No. Go to step 7.
7. Is the battery indicator flashing green and amber?
Yes. Your computer may be in a hot environment. Charging the battery in this condition may affect the life span of the battery. Continue to step 8.
No. The problem is resolved.
8. Disconnect the computer from AC power. Is the the battery indicator still flashing amber?
Yes. You may have a defective battery. Continue to step 9.
No. The problem is resolved.
9. Remove the battery, and press its test button. Is the uppermost indicator in the charge gauge of the battery flashing?
Yes. You have a defective battery. Continue to step 9.
No. The problem is resolved.
10. If a spare battery is available, fully charge it, and then install it in the computer.
11. Turn on the computer. Is the power indicator off?
Yes. Your original battery is defective.

Hope this helps.

So, if I'm understanding correctly, both the battery and the power adapter are OK. So, it's the laptop itself.

Therefore, the power jack would typically be the next culprit. Soldering or replacing the power jack is not for a novice.

In addition, if the power jack is OK, I'd suggest removing the heatsink and apply new thermal paste. It's also possible that the motherboard may need replacing. Again, leave it to an expert if you are not familiar.

I wish there was a simpler answer for you.

Mr acer aspire 5315 laptop doesn't power on? My old power cable is damage and I bought new acer 5315 power cable.

There could be possible damage to the part where you plug the charger into the laptop. Look and make sure that the pin in the charger port is not missing/damaged/bent. If it looks fine and your new charger still does not work, there might be some other hardware problem in the laptop.

We just bought this acer aspire 5315 lap top brand new charger but battery still wont hold charge even plugged into the wall can anyone help please its for my kids to play?????????????? i have a gateway...

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Acer 5315 won't charge unless i hold the lead in at the back! i've replaced the battery already now wondering if the lead is the problem ? what do you think?

Most laptops push a lot of power through that plug.
Have someone who knows about repairing them take a look to make sure the lead is the problem first, otherwise, it is a problem inside the laptop.
The contacts inside the laptop overheat and become unsoldered. A good repair shop should be able to fix it without new parts by resoldering the connection inside the unit.

Acer aspire 5315 batt problem

Hello,

Please run this unit on A/C only and see if it powers up like that. If it does not, then the A/C adapter is faulty and thus cannot charge your battery.

Service the battery by hitting it flat onto your hand palm or onto the back of your shoe and retry to see if it is charging.

The battery won't hold a charge. it's a brand new

Have you checked the pins (the points that the battery takes power from the laptop)? Try cleaning them with alcohol and check loose contact.

Try these and in case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Thanks and regards

Acer Asipre 5315 laptop Battery A/C supply plugged in, hit power switch and the power light blinks 2 (maybe 1 time)times but the unit does not power on.

remove the battery and power cord then remove the battery on the mother board, hold down the power button for 60 seconds to drain the capacitors, if that doesn't work it's the motherboard that should be replaced.

Laptop not working on battery, i have changed the battery

There are several simple indicator to determine the source of the problem. There are 4 major components involved, the laptop circuitry, contact terminal, AC adapter and battery. Every laptop has a LED light indicating if it is in the charging mode (without powering up the laptop). Start out with your laptop shutdown. Pull out the battery, then plug in the AC Adapter. See any LED light go on? Try again, the same procedure now with the battery plug in first, then plug in the AC adapter. See any additional LED lights go on? If there is no different, than the laptop can not detect your battery. If the AC adapter can power up your laptop, you can eliminate the battery (assumed brand new battery) & AC adapter. This only leaves you with the laptop circuitry & contact terminal. If your laptop can charge up your old battery or any battery, then it might be still the battery & contact. So, you try these procedure to reduce down to the "problem" component.

Acer 5315 pc notebook help with bios password

You are going to unplug your laptop and disconnect the battery.

Then you will have to open the case and find the little battery inside. This one is usually soldered, so you will have to unsold it.

Leave without power for have an hour, and the reinstall the batteries.

The password should be reset.

Check up the picture to help you locate the little battery.
