Question about Apex Digital GB55HD09W 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Resistors Hi, There are quite alot of resistors in front of the ic chips. I see smaller(blue) ones about 12 total and one of the board number for these chips is r392 and then there are two rows of 12 each larger blue ones and one of the board numbers on these ones is r939 and then there are 12 larger gray ones and the board number on one of these is r950. Of these which one would be the set to replace. Again thanks for your input David

Okay R939 resistors are 3.3 OHM 2 watt metal film. and R950 are 270 OHM 2 watt metal film. The 3.3 ohm are the most likely. One end has to be unsolderd fro circuit and lifted out to check them if they dont read 3.3 ohm they need to be replaced as they are 5% tolerant resistors. I Cant find the rating for R392 can you tell me the color bands on them and are they the same size as the other two type resistors? The 3.3 are the ones I would check if they read 3.3 they are good but if they dont measure or measure high replace them, and let me know the details on R392 color bands and size.

My magnovox big screen is showing double picture like its 3d... will i be able to fix it myself

It can be a do it yourself job with some advise--best way is to look inside first.

As you look from back of set (set unplugged and back cover off) they should be side by side on two metal heat sinks with fins to the far left.

Take a look, they will have the STK number printed on the front of them in white. Also take a look at all the tiny resistors near the front on (in front and to left) to see if any of the resistors are white in the middle--the resistors are easy to test.

Total parts cost if purchased on EBAY (I know a seller there) will be under 25 dollars total.

Chassis (plastic which contains the boards) needs to be up in the service position--best way to get at everything.

I have repaired hundreds of these sets and know what to do and not to do.

I will attach photo of typical convergence chip so you know what to look for--chips have 18 pins each.

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful and I will be here to assist you.

Here is what the chips look like, it is from a JVC but yours uses similar parts and they should have the STK-392-120 NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF THEM. Photo here also shows protect resistors in front of the chips, in your set they will be somewhat smaller and usually light green in color.

Dear SIR Please send me the number part of Convergence Module for JVC Model AV-48WP74. THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE

I WOULD DOUBT THE BOARD IS AVAILABLE and you if you have convergence problems can have it repaired for 1/10th of what it would cost.

Only Two IC's and or one or more resistors fail on this board.

It is easy to actually get the board out of the set.

See attached photos of the board:

It uses two of the STK-392-110 chips ( A pair can be purchased on EBAY for about 12 dollars!) If one or more of the resistors are bad they are easy to locate and replace---generic part and each part on this board has a location number printed next to it.

Less than 20 dollars in parts, about 40 minutes to remove board, replace parts and put back--all you will need if it works is the JVC remote to use to adjust convergence.

If this told you something (or the photos helped you) rate this solution as, very helpful as I do this here for free.

Regards, SD TECH

Convergence problem

There are 12 resistors all of them are 6.8 ohm 1watt resistors they are located in front of the ICs heat sinks at board location numbers 3149 -3160 they will all be identical and are grouped in sets of two side by side.

I have a Mitsubishi WD-73727. It comes on with just blue screen and for just a few minutes the OSD works. Now nothing works. Still have blue screen but no on/off or any control from remote or front panel.

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that the issue is with the convergence ICs which are required to be replaced. Also check power resistor for leakage, if values are not exact you have to replace them as well. Replacing only the IC's may solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Convergence bad

resistor along the convergence are 2Watt size or less. they are easy to find as all of them are in pairs. if you find one is not the same on the other, then replace that resistor. change the 2 convergence IC at the same time. let us know.

Hitachi 51G500A Convergence Problem

Hi, 110`s & 150`s are both replaced by stk 392-120`s. which run waaay cooler because the 120``s are rated at 4 amps while the 110`s and 150`s are 3 amp devices , the real key is to make absolutely certain you are not buying generics (which are everywhere on the internet), there should
be NO black print on the back side and a 4 digit code (not 5) on the front, top right corner, the originals or OEM`s are never $8.99, usually run about $12-15 and are made by Sanyo but the word sanyo will NOT be on the IC`s , so go by the info above, be sure to check for burnt resistors next to the heatsinks as well, good luck, video-tek

Phillips 60pw9363 Which IC is red and which is blue

Thats the DPTV 335 series chassis when the IC blows it will usually take out 1 or 2 6.8 ohm resistors along with it. Look at the resistors right next to the ICs you will notice 1 or 2 with a little discoloration in the middle replace those and your set should be back to working just fine. Let me know if you need more help. These resistors are easy to spoy they all look alike and shouldnt have any bands on them they will be stamped 6R8 ohm 1W J
