All new hard discs are SATA supported. hence you can use them. but make sure the capacity could be handled by the processor as the presently available ones are of very high capacity. SATA cable is red in colour and about 2 cm wide

I am using K8S MX Motherboard with OS-Windows XP. but my hard disk is not working. i want to purchase a new 160gb IDE hard drive. please tell me if it supports 160gb hard drive or not

The specs for this motherboard say it has a Utra-DMA 133, and 2 SATA 3Gbs ports.
You can connect any IDE HD, and any SATA 3 or lower HD. These standards are backwards compatible. When it comes to size, there is a 2TB MBR limit.
I would skip IDE and go directly with a SATA 3 drive.

What file system did you use for partitioning? Also, what OS are you currently running?

My guess is that you did not partition this drive with a compatible file system.

Assuming I am correct, you'll have to use an operating system that is compatible, or else partition accordingly.

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

ASUS K8S-MX Motherboard, but when I connect IDE

How were the partitions created on the SATA? Are they RAID configured from the other system? Does the new motherboard have the same support for your HD as the other system? Check the setup in the BIOS screen on both systems to make them identical as much as you can. According to Tom's Hardware: "In the SATA port configuration place you have up to four "mode" choices: IDE (or PATA) Emulation, native SATA, AHCI, or RAID." Check this section. Hi my ASUS K8S-MX motherboard is not detecting SATA hard drive and Sata DVD Writer. Though my IDE hard drive and DVD Writer is working fine. Please help me with this .

Two thing here that can be the issue.

1. Bad Sata controller onboard
2. Sata controller is disabled in the bios.

The Fix

1. Purchase a independent sata controller there like $25 bucks.

2. Try going into the bios under advanced and make sure its not disabled.

I sure hope this finds your Very Helpful vote! Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderul New Year!

I have a asus K8S-MX i want to connect SATA HDD

To enable sata port press Delete Key when computer Starts. U will get BIOS menu. On there the Main settings window the second last option is to enable sata option. If u want to install widows OS (XP,2000, Server edition) **** Driver CD and go to RAID folder there u get a driver ( shown as Floppy drive Image). Incerte Floppy in drive and click that icon. And click Extract. Then incert the OS CD. On starting of instalition u will get a option press F6 to install Raid Disk. Press F6. On Bitween instalition u will get a option to install this Raid. ( With out this RAID u cant install XP or Other vartions of windows in ur sata hard drive)
