First thing I would try is wash out the oil tank with a little bit of diesel fuel then run some thinner oil thru it to see if it gets better . I usually leave bar and chain off when I do this.. or if it is oiling but not going down the bar check the bar oil holes.

SOURCE: bar oiler not working

Talked to a friend woodcutter & he advised me to replace the worm gear behind the clutch. I found the part at Sears,($10) Replaced it & the saw is working fine again. PS to get the clutch off remove the spark plug & incert a piece of rope. That binds the engin so the clutch is easily removed. CB

SOURCE: chain oiler replacement

If it is Stihl 025 the chain oiler is on the bottom.First check if the worm gear(under the starter)is in good condition.Replace the starter(blocking the piston in the cilinder with a rope with many nods, that rope entering in the sparkplug hole). On the handle there are 4 screws on the right side (under 4 black plastic plugs,at the bottom 2 screws.)CUnlock them and take off the handle. At the bottom you can see the chain oiler( under the hose) the mark for right possition is there.Take off the oiler using a screw(lock clockwise into the oiler)and then pull it out.Clean with compressed air the oil hole.Put back together .Succes!

SOURCE: chain oiler

Saw dust has clogged the passage way in the bar. take the bar and chain off and clean the groove where the chain runs, also near where the bar mounts to the saw there are holes in the groove that intersect with cross holes in the center of the bar, push a paperclip through top and bottom.
If this works for you please leave a rating, thanks

SOURCE: Stihl 024 chain oiler is not function, how to

This isn't an easy repair. You'll need to take off the pto clutch and that might not be easy. The oiler is behind the clutch. There is a drive gear behind the clutch that drives the oiler. You should check to make sure oil is getting from the reservoir to the pump. That is easiest to do with the pump off the saw. If you take it to your local Stihl dealer, unless the pump is shot, this is not a complicated or expensive repair.

How to replace oil pump in Stihl 018 chainsaw.

The oiler is set in place to a depth premeasured and tough to duplicate without the proper tool. If you use a proper sized bolt 5mm about 200mm long. After threading in till it stops mark the depth with a marker. pull the bolt out and the oiler will be on the end of the bolt.

thread the new oiler on and reverse the procedure.

My recommendation is to see a local service dealer like www.arcolawn.com and purchase the speciality tools:
21 Assembly tool 1123 890 2200 Removing oil pump
22 - Puller 1130 893 1400
23 - Installer 1130 893 1500

After saying all that I would tell you that a dull chain is the number one cause of "oiler problems" because a dull chain will over heat and make it seem as if the chain has no oil.

Good luck
Joe

The automatic oiler on my sthil ms 390 is not working, the oil is running out of the front under the muffler instead of oiling the chain how do i fix this?

If I had an IPL we would attempt a repair but I do not, and Stihl IPLS are proprietary.
I am going to recommend you do search here:
ArboristSite.com Chainsaw thread (free to join)
http://www.arboristsite.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9
I did for "Stihl MS390 Oiler" and found many threads. This being one of the best although it does not address your exact problem.
THALL10326 and Lakeside are both Stihl mechanics. You will find them most helpful.
http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=65495&highlight=stihl+ms390+oiler
If you do not find an answer please post your problem there. Someone there has seen and repaired what you have. I think the oil pump or connector has failed. Both are behind the inboard clutch. If internal clutch parts must be removed they have a left handed thread (tighten to remove). HTH

How to adjust chain bar oiler

The Stihl 026 PRO does have an adjustable oiler and it is located on the bottom of the saw just below the clutch drum.
Stihl also builds an 026 "Standard" without the adjustable oiler, however, the hole location for adjustment is still there.

The 026 PRO will also have a decompression valve on top of the saw to make the rope easier to pull during startup. If you have the DECO valve you should also have the adjustable oiler. Hope this helps.
