This is an update to:

HP LaserJet P4015 - Not Picking Up Paper

HP now recognise this as a manufacturing fault and have released a service note for it and will send you a new fuser free of charge. The description of the fault is:

When a print job is sent to the printer, the printer will display processing job on the control panel, and will continually ramp up and down attempting to print the job. After several minutes the printer will return to ready without posting any error messages. Occasionally, after several minutes the print job will print.

The fix for the fault is:

The fuser needs to be replaced and firmware needs to be upgraded to version 04.060.7 or higher.

The customer will need to download the latest firmware from hp.com, version 4.060.7 or higher. The firmware can be downloaded from hp at "hp.com/go/support" . Select Download drivers and software (and firmware) in step 1 and in step 2 type in the printer name, LJ P4014, LJ P4015 or LJ P4515

It's probably best to update the firmware before you phone HP to report the fault, or at least tell them you have. If you do update the firmware, you will notice some extra numbers and letters on the display when the printer initialises. This is normal, it's probably used by HP staff for diagnosis.

The fuser is a customer replaceable part, and does not require a service technician to install. If the customer requests a service technician to install the fuser the customer will be responsible for the labor. The fuser can be sent directly to the customer with instructions to upgrade their firmware.

What this means is that HP will send you a new fuser to fit yourself.

The models covered by this service note are:

HP LaserJet P4014 Printer series, HP LaserJet P4015 Printer series, HP LaserJet P4510 Printer series.

EFFECTIVE DATES
Start: 2010-01-01

Expiration: 2010-12-31

What this means, is that HP will send you a new fuser for this fault until the end of 2010, although they do sometimes extend the active time period for service notes.

Hope it helps..

Thanks for using fixya......

My HP 2430 continues to jam on Tray 2 only. Tray 3 and Tray 1 (manual feed) are fine. I have replaced rollers and it continues to jam paper.

Common problem on this printer is for either the drive shaft for tray 2 to come lose or to break. Pull out the tray and try to rotate the roller. If it turns freely then the shaft is broken. The replacement procedure is too complex to describe here. If the roller does not turn freely then likely the pick solenoid has failed.

Lexmark T644 Drawer 2 Missing error message but drawer 2 is in place. Drawer 2 always has problems pulling form form drawer when printing from drawer 2.

If job prints from the wrong tray or on the wrong paper or specialty media, this is an indication that the operator panel menu settings do not match the media loaded in the tray.

Make sure the Paper Size and Paper Type specified in the printer driver match the paper size and type in the tray.

My hp 8500 is saying paper jam but there never was one

Hi, please try this:

1. Remove all media from the output tray.
2. Check the duplexer.

a. Push the button on either side of the duplexer, and then remove the panel or unit.
eibraz_30.jpg
b. Locate any jammed media inside the device, grasp it with both hands and then pull it towards you.
c. If the jam is not there, push the latch on the top of the duplexer and lower its cover. If the jam is inside, carefully remove it. Close the cover.

eibraz_31.jpg

d. Reinsert the duplexer into the device.

3. Open the top cover and remove any debris.
4. If you have not found the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and remove the jammed media, if possible. If not, do the following:

a. Ensure the device is turned off and disconnect the power cord.
b. Lift the device off Tray 2.
c. Remove the jammed media from the bottom of the device or from Tray 2.
d. Reposition the device on top of Tray 2.

5. Open the print carriage access door. If there is paper remaining inside the device, ensure the carriage has moved to the right of the device, free any paper scraps or wrinkled media, and pull the media towards you through the top of the device.

6. After clearing the jam, close all covers, turn on the device (if you turned it off) and resend the print job.

This is based on the HP 8500 manual. I hope this helps.

I have a hp laserjet 4250 printer it had a paper jam in tray 2 i have cleared the jam but it keeps saying i still have the jam in tray 2

There is still paper stuck in the printer. try lifting the printer off of tray 2 to inspect it or here it is straight from the service manual...

Jams in tray 2

Table 7-10 Causes of tray 2 jams

Cause Solution

The feed or separation rollers are dirty, worn, or damaged. Clean the rollers. If they are dirty after cleaning, or if they are

worn or damaged, replace the rollers.

The pickup roller is worn or damaged. Replace the pickup roller.

The tray 2 paper pickup assembly drive gears are damaged

or the assembly is defective.

Check the drive gears in the paper pickup drive assembly.

Replace the pickup drive assembly if the gears are

damaged. See Paper-pickup drive assembly.

The tray 2 pickup solenoid (SL101) is damaged. 1 Disconnect the connector for the tray pickup solenoid

from the dc controller PCA (location J92).

2 Measure the resistance between the cable connectors.

3 If the measured resistance is not approximately

160 ohms for the HP LaserJet 4200/4300, or 110 ohms

for the HP LaserJet 4250/4350, replace the tray 2

pickup solenoid.

The tray 2 lifter-drive assembly or the stack position

sensor (PS107) is defective.

Replace the lifter-drive assembly. See Tray 2 lifter-drive

assembly and/or Printer switches and sensors.

The dc controller PCA is defective. Replace the dc controller PCA. See Dc controller PCA.

Dirty, worn, or deformed pick-up roller, cassette separation

roller, and cassette feed roller.

Clean the rollers if they are dirty. Replace any worn or

deformed rollers. The cassette separation roller and the

cassette feed rollare are to be replaced together.

Damaged gears in the cassette pick-up drive unit. Move the gears in the cassette pick up drive unit. If the

gears are not rotating correctly, or are damaged or worn,
replace the cassette pick-up drive unit.

How to clear paper jam?

How to clear the jam depends on where the jam is.

If the Jam is in Tray 1:

2. If you cannot see the jammed sheet, open the tray 1 door and pull out tray 2.
3. Push down on two tabs to release the tray 1 panel.
4. Remove the jammed sheet by pulling it straight out.
5. Push up on two tabs to replace the tray 1 panel.
6. Replace tray 2.

If the Jam is in Tray 2:
1. Pull out tray 2 and place it on a flat surface.
2. Remove the jammed sheet by pulling it straight out.
3. Replace tray 2.
4. Press OK to continue printing.

If the Jam is in the Fuser area:
1. Open the rear door.
2. Remove any jammed sheets.
3. Close the rear door.

If the Jam is in the Output Bin:
1. Look for jammed paper in the output bin area.
2. Remove any visible media
3. Open and then close the rear door to clear the message.

It is possible that the paper may tear when clearing the jam. Be sure to clear any paper fragments that tear off.

Hp m4345 printer tray 2 paper jam

Clean the rubber intake rollers with alcohol and allow to dry for 10 minutes. Take the tray out and you should be able to see the roller inside. Also check to make sure that the printer is default to tray 2. Use the Menu option on the LCD screen of the printer. Set the default tray to tray 2 in the windows driver as well. You should be able to easily get to this by hitting "ctrl+p" when you are ready to print a document.

tray 2 has a little piece of cardboard that can easily be overlooked. you'll probably have to pull it out by sticking your hand in the back of the printer, tray 2. can't be done from the front because the cardboard piece keeps tray 2 stuck, and gives paper jam errors.
