Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I heard a loud crackling, popping noise coming from the rear of my refrigerator, and smelled plastic burning. I unplugged it and removed the cover, once I could see inside, I plugged it in again and immediately the popping started again. I then saw smoke coming from the overload protector/start relay. Disconnected the power again, and pulled the overload protector. My question being, is it safe to simply replace the protector and switch, or is there something deeper going on here? In a few more minutes I am convinced that the assembly would have caught on fire and do not want to risk this happening again while I am not at home to catch it or worse still, at home asleep. The compressor has an internal ground which is why that happened. You should replace the whole machine in my opinion, because with that kind of problem, I can guarentee that not only is the compressor gone, but the control board in the ref which is wired directly to the compressor has been damaged as well. I've seen this a few times and know its not worth the nmoney to put into the machine.

Start components or wiring could be getting old and brittle. Take the back cover off. Its usually a cardboard cover with metal screws and inspect/repair the wiring.

The lamp is most likely needing replacement. Replaceing the lamp is a very easy proceedure on that model.I am pasting a pic where the lamp cover is located on rear cover. Remove the screw and the lamp is behind the lamp door.

Tv made sizzle pop sound and went out

All depending on the models, but i have seen and work on may units with this problem, there are a few large capacitors on the power supply that are sometimes doubly secured with glue, that in turn becomes conductive and causes faults like this. check all the large capacitors for any low or nil readings and with a fine point probe, carefully remove the glue on the and around the caos, and elsewhere if you see any. Good Luck.

Arking and noisey compressor startup. can smell a burning odor after restart

sounds like a bad overload relay assy for your compressor, its attached to the side of our compressor assy if that is what making the noise heres the part number 12002784. but if its burnig and arcing enought o ruin the compressor terminals you may need a new compressor, and depending on when purchased may or may not be covered. new overload relay comes with new compressor if needed
