Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I have a pioneer DVR-110D dvd rom drive that does not recognise blank DVD. If there is no disk present in the drive windows xp explorer recognises the drive as a DVD-rw drive but as soon as a blank DVD is put in, it changes to a CD ROM device within windows XP. I have the latest firmware on the device (1.41). The device is not recognised in my DVD authoring software and I am at a little bit of a loss as to why this is occurring. Please help???

have you connected the 4 pin molex plug from the computer mainboard to the drive ?
is the IDE Cable correctly fitted ?
did you set the jumper connector on the rear of the drive to Master Or Slave ? if you are sharing the cable with a hard-drive, and the hard-drive jumper is set to slave, then the dvd will have to be set As Master ( otherwise they conflict ) or only 1 device will be recognised.

Give this a try, if no change, the dvd rom may have to be replaced:-
Try My computer>properties>devicemanager>hardware tab, then click on the '+' sign on the DVD/CDROM drives line.
Right click your DVD then click uninstall.
Restart your pc and let Windows find it again, see if it sorts itself out.
If it's getting on a bit try a lens cleaner also.
