If your printer did not good in times of reseting the cartridges do check the cartridge holder if the is some dirt inside or the terminal of your cartridge had wet by the ink when you refill the ink of your cartridges.

Magenta check ink comes on but it is full

Is the cartridge a new original Canon or is it refilled? If it is refilled it is likely whoever has refilled it has done a poor job. The Canon CLI-8 cartridges have kill chips on them that need to be replaced. Many refillers like to try to confuse people and tell them to either ignore it or put the old chip on their new filled compatible cartridge. The truth is that the chip must be replaced or reset for the printer to recognized it.

Printer won't recognize the new ink cartridge

Each cartridge has a electronic chip pre-porogrammed at the factory.
If it is a reputable store they will exchange for the right color as they can return the PM to Canon as defective,

I keep getting a U150 ink tank cannot be recognized message. I check the ink tank, it is full. It lghts when I put it in, but when I put the cover down, the light goes out and is not recoginzed.

YES- the solution is I had been sold a cartridge for the printer that was same series 8 it needs but it was PM Magenta not a stand M for magenta so I found out form Canon - this is not a photo printer and it cannot use photo printer ink attached Canon's reply to confirm. Went back 3rd time got the M in the 8 series and all is good alarm light out and no error saying it cannot recognize the ink cartridge. YEAH!!!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the PIXMA MP530 only uses the regular ink tanks and not the photo
ones. This is the reason that it did not work correctly. Glad to hear
that everything is working now. If we can be of further assistance with
your PIXMA MP530, please let us know.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

Magenta ink ran out, continued to use printer, replaced ink tank twice, have done cleaning & deep cleaning several times no magenta coming through, all other colours ok. what to do next?? anybody have...

Think you may have killed your print head, but try this.
OK, Canon will hate me for posting this.

1. Remove ink cartridges
2. Remove print head
3. go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head, be careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

U150 canon pixma MP830 "the following inktank can not be recognized" magenta. Please help, Thanks, Ted

I have had this problem repeatedly lately. To try the Stop/Reset solution already mentioned, I turned on my infrequently used Canon Pixma MP830. Most of the time at a fresh startup it gives an alarm message "the following ink tank cannot be recognized" OR "there are two of the following ink tanks installed" ??! for the single black 8 cartridge !, a Canon original. Of course, tonight it started just fine, but the methods I have used when it does not work because of these alarms are the following:

I open the top, wait for the cartridge carrier to center, unsnap the black 8 cartridge, then snap it back in and close the top. This sometimes works if repeated until the machine recognizes it. Sometimes I unsnap all the cartridges and resnap them. If this doesn't work, I remove the black 8 entirely and use a clean cloth to wipe the electrical contacts of the cartridge in the direction of their length and reinstall. It sometimes takes a repeated combination of these steps and sometimes the two different alarm messages will appear alternately. There does not appear to be any logic to it. Once the machine does recognize it, it works just fine.

However, if the machine is turned off, many times when it is turned back on later I have to go through all this frustrating rigamarole again. I hope it is a glitch with this particular cartridge (fairly new) and not the machine. Next time I get the alarm messages I will definitely first try the Stop/Reset button solution suggestion, but I thought I'd add my two cents solution, which so far has eventually caused the machine to recognize the cartridge.

Canon Pixma MP610 CARTRIDGE PROBLEM

HI. Try holding the reset button for 6 seconds to overide the error. This may dissable the chip so it won't report but will allow you to keep printing. Simply check the ink tanks visually.

Refilling will give the same error too, again dissable the error.
