Question about MSI PM8M-V Motherboard

1 Answer

Do I need a video card for this mainboard?

I have a MSI PM8M-v mainboard, and I get no display on my VGA monitor when I hook it up. Does this mainboard have an onboard video option, or do I need to hook up a video card? It does have an 8X AGP slot. Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt response. I purchased a graphics card, so I will go ahead and start installing it. Out of curiosity, is there a setting on the mainboard to either use the onboard video or the AGP video?

The video card worked. I entered the BIOS and set the time and date. Are there other things I should be doing at this time? I skipped the rest of the setup and it said "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". Do I need to install an operating system at this time?

Since you have able to connect your monitor to the board it means that it has a built in video on the mother board but there's no display on the screen if that's the case there's a possibility that the built in video is not working fine, so I'm suggesting you get a AGP video card because its really better not to use the built in video.

if you're done installing the new video card you can disable the built in video on your computers BIOS. good luck

Yup now you need to install the operating system because it seesm that there's no operating system on it but if there is make sure there's no floppy disk on your floppy drive.

When my computer was power on then cpu was run but the monitor doesn't display ...

If the monitor did not display the CMOS messages as computer was booting then there is an issue either with the monitor or the video card/motherboard.
Is there a light on the monitor to show it has power to it?
Is the video cable connected securely at both ends?
If all above is true then suggest looking at video card.

Hello download the manual here:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/PM8M-V.html#/?div=Manual

Look here also:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-13-perform-steps-posting-boot-video-problems

Check the power supply, and all your power connections again.
Try to reset the cmos by removing the battery, and inset it again.

Look also for bad caps on the mainboard:

If they look like this, scrap the mainboard.
It does not pay, to let them be changed.

Good luck

Hi, you can download the vga driver here:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/PM8M3-V.html#/?div=Driver&os=XP%2032

Please select your windows version.
Select the vga driver and download it.
Unzip the file before installation.

There is no jumper settings for adding a video card.
It has an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) 8x/4X slot.
You can also download a manual:

Dear sir pls i need intel N1996 vga graphics software

Hello your mainboard belongs to the HP/COMPAC site
You can`t find the driver at MSI.
You have to visit the HP site here:

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

Enter the full HP number or computer model.
Next select your windows system.
And download the network driver.

If in doubt click on:

How do I find my product name / number?

I think its this driver for the lan card:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&tmp_geoLoc=true&softwareitem=ob-18404-1

Just click on this file for download:

s.gifsp27426.exe

Good luck

Sir i have msi n1996 mb.now no display in this mb what to do

The monitor could be faulty, try connecting a different monitor to see if you get a Windows image.
Next check the BIOS setting, if the video card is built-in on the motherboard, check the video settings.
Next the on-board video may have a video RAM problem, re-seat the RAM modules, the video card used part of the RAM memory (ie. shared memory).
Next if the video card is faulty, get or borrow a AGP video card and insert it into the AGP slot on the motherboard and connect your monitor to this video card then boot up the computer.
Each of these steps should identify and fix your video problem.
If you need further assistance, please leave me a comment together with any error messages.

I want the instalation for vga carrd compatabile at motherboard msi pm8m-v plz... thank you very much

I tried to look up you manual for *********** board but I would have needed the CPU socket and the type cpu either AMD or INTEL. so I am answering w/o the info. If your motherboard  already had an VGA video card Either AGP,PCI or PCIe. on a slot all you have to do is buy the same type of card, plug it in where the old one went, install the sofware that came with it, including the driver.
If you are tryign to install a present card. Go to the manufactors website of that card ,download the software and driver and instal the same. Write back with more details and we can  provide  more specific directions.
