Question about Connex 4600 Base CB Radio

2 Answers

I have a Connex 4600 Turbo mounted in the headliner of a W900L Kenworth using Wilson 2000 twin antennas and a RK56 mic. When trying to use the "talk-back" feature all I hear is constant "sqealing". This radio was tuned & peeked when bought new 1 yr ago. Any solution?

Had the same problem. Try backing off the RF gain just a bit (about 4 o'clock ) and set mic gain 2 o'clock or lower ...that worked for mine ..it is still plenty loud

Strange. You shouldn't have a squealing problem with an RK56 noise canceling mic.

Unfortunately there is no way to change the volume of the talkback. Its too loud. The only solution is to turn the mic gain down.

The only reason you need to have talkback on is to check your audio. Make sure the echo is good and what not. After that you really don't need it on. So turn down the mic gain, then check the echo, then turn off the Talkback and turn the gain back up.

The squeal is feedback from the talkback being to loud and being heard by the mic. So the only way to solve it is to lower the volume of the talkback, (Which is not possible in this radio) lowering the mic gain(which lowers your audio level) or turning it off.

Measure out your coax in 3ft intervals. Like if you need 7ft use a 9ft length of coax. Also make sure your mirrors are grounded use a external swr meter as well, the internal swr on the galaxy could be off. .

Can only get out about two truck lenghts and then nobody can hear me. i just bought a brand new astatic mike, but that wasn't the problem, bought a new wilson 2000 antenna and that's not the problem...

Did they set the swr on the new antenna for you? check the installation of antenna system. make sure the insulator is ontop of mirror mount. Check SWR's.. use a dummy load on the coax and check it to make sure its ok..... if you had bad swr before you changed antennas the rf finals may be bad in the radio. simple $10-20 repair.@ a Decent shop. don't pay more than that. have them check the swr's they should do it for FREEEE!!!.. unless theres a problem like cables,mounts bad ie...also have the radio checked that should be FREE too to have it checked on a bench.. i don't charge unless theres a problem, and the customer wants it fixed. here in temple, tx hwy 95&fm93....

call or text if you need more help..

It's probably a bad ground connection at the antenna. The coax shield needs to have a good ground (ground plane) or else you'll have RF feedback through the mic cable due to excessive RF traveling back down the outside of the coax and making the radio "hot".

Connex 4600 turbo the talk back

THE TALK BACK VOLUME IS CONTROLLED BY THE MIC GAIN, TRY ADJUSTING YOUR TALK BACK VOLUME ABOUT TURNING THE MIC GAIN FROM 12 OCLOCK TO 6 OCLOCK, DO NOT WORRY YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY OUT BOUND POWER UNLESS YOU TURN THE MIC GAIN BELOW 11 OCLOCK

Killer radio needs help

I'm not sure if this will solve anything...but here it goes.
1st..Make sure you antenna connections are tight. it sound like it is arcing.
2nd.. make sure you SWR is very low. 1.5 or lower. (very important)
3rd.. make sure the rf power at your radio is turned down to low..over powering (over driving) your amp will fry your finals. (just as important)

If it's not any of these..then I'm not sure.
I have always used an Road King RK56. Not the knock off but the real deal. I would sometimes shock my lips on the metal grille , when I keyed up with my linear on high. I could also power flourescent lights when I got under them..lol and that was with a 250w box and a galaxy 99!

Connex 4600 turbo export radio

Hi,

On most mobile communications equipment, it is best that:
1. the power leads are directly wired to the battery terminals;
2. the bracket and radio body are grounded to the chassis of the vehicle;
3. a braided grounding strip be used in addition to the negative power lead; and/or
4. a gutter or trunk lip mounted antenna be used rather than magnetic. Antennas are better made of metal rod (not fiberglass) such as those made by Daiwa, Maldol, Oscar, Hokushin and others. The mount itself should use high quality RG58 coaxial cable such as those by Belden and others.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
