When some one at a shop says " I don't have the time to look at it." It really means, I haven't the slightest idea even were to begin to try and fix that radio, because I I am not really a tech, and I just sell Peak and Tunes, & snake oil.

I can't really say without looking at the radio and tracing down things, but there is sometimes a problem with a cap in the frequency counter circuit, that causes a buzzing sound.

As for the low modulation, there are too many things that could cause this. It really needs a tech, and your gonna end up paying to have it fixed. I would just call galaxy and talk to a tech, and most likely send it in.

You can look at the caps and look for ones that look damaged, or burnt. Also look for any components leads shorting on other components. If you find something that looks burnt or busted, if you have soldering skills, you can replace it with the same part.

You may solve some of the problems that way. That's the first thing you look at when working on a radio with a problem, the second is looking on the trace side of the board for cold solder joints.

From there its a lot of testing.

I have a galaxy dx 33 hml it was doing fine till it fell off dash , now when I key up its really loud through my talk back, and it squeels . Does anybody know what could have happened?

you may have cracked the pcb board and its shorting out the audio and thus making it squeal. Best to take it to a tech and let them tell you whats wrong .

How do i set my galaxy dx 88 hl so the talkback is on all the time

turn the talkback knob to the right and push it in to engage talkback.when you get the volume you want leave it alone .Now key the mic.You will probably hear a squeal coming from the speaker. Now turn the volume down on the talkback knob until the squeal goes away.If you run your RF gain wide open it may squeal also.

My radio squeals with echo when my amps on

adjust your talkback to just open then set your echo to where you want it. Now turn your amp on and re-adjust both the talkback and the echo . If you have a speaker nearby the radio may be feeding back through it so move it away from your radio . Now start talking with the mic and adjust your echo because you should be able to hear yourself talk through your talkback.

Cant hear talk back without echo

all the new exports are setup when the echo is on the talkback is on.. unless they have a switch just for talkback. its just a simple wire down to the transistor to turn it on. to keep the audio goin during transmit... you can always have it on a switch so it can be on / off regardless of echo. shouldn't cost more than $8 at any shop.. call or text if you need more help..

I have a galaxy dx 66 some time I can hear well but most times the audio is real low an the talk back is low if any an no matter what the echo is set at the talk back stays at a faint same. I'm running it...

on a galaxy the mic will not hurt the rx.. nor will echo time/speed change anything. on modulation. there is a problem. i do have time for my customers if you want me to look at it... can look at it and give you a quote. the parts are very cheap for cbs. it just the time cost.. i wouldn't spend more than $45 on it myself. when new exports start @ $199 for a similar model.

I have a uniden grant and i have wired a galaxy power desk mic with rogger beep when ever i key it up it squeals was wondering is there a way to fix that

yeah your mic gain is way too high. You can either turn off talk back if you can, or turn the gain down. Depending on how loud the talk back is, your audio may suffer. If that is the case, you will not be able to run that mic. Get an RK-56 or a Skythumper mic. They are noise canceling. You will get no squeal with that mic, and it will sound awesome.

If you really want a roger beep, take it to a tech and them install one.

We are trying a radio check for a mirage 66 but the static only goes away when we turn the squelch all the way down and we can't hear anyone

Sounds like you have a lot of interference. Could be something in the vehicle causing all the noise. Try it with the engine off. Also make sure the antenna system is correct. for example, coax good. antenna grounded. SWR low. etc.

Galaxy dx-66 squeals on talkback

timspur, hi. First off, using the talkback with a tuned Galaxy will give you problems, so you need to use a good noise cancelling mic like a RK 56, or Astatic 636. If your running an amp, that will only amplify the problem. Here is a mod if your comfortable working on your radio, to tone down the TB volume.
Talkback can become distorted if these radios have been "peaked," and there is no cure because the talkback just amplifies what goes to the RF section. Try adding a 470k ohm resistor from junction of C155/R207 to the junction of C187/R235 on the solder side of the board. This will also give you clean talkback on SSB and FM. Try different values of resistance to get the amount of volume you want. The less the resistance the louder the talkback will be.**
Hope this was what your looking for,, I know for a fact that the Astatic mics do help tone it down.
Let us know,,, Mechanic
