Aggetator not moving during wash cycle, why

Does the agitator have an auger at the top, if so you will need to replace the agitator dogs in the auger section. Part #80040 If no auger is present you probably have a broken motor coupler.Part #285753A

Kenmore 92587400... The dual action or top portion is not spinning

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.92587400

I assume that you mean that the top agitator is not.

See the section of the Sears site for Agitator, Basket and Tub.

You'll see an item #5 "Clutch, Agitator". These are basically used to allow the top agitator to move only one way. If they are worn (which happens since they are plastic parts) the top agitator may not move either way.

There is also a part #6 "Agitator Auger" that screws into the main agitator shaft from the transmission. If this is loose, the top agitator may not move either.

Both of these are easy to check and repair.

I have a whirlpool washer and the upper agitator (the one that is supposed to move the clothes down) is not working. What shall I do?

You need to replace the agitator dogs. Yes, there is such a thing. This is a very simple repair that should take 30 minutes or less. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

The dogs are located under the Auger (thats the top portion of the agitator). They are plastic teeth that act as a clutching mechanism for driving the auger during the wash cycle. Over time they simply wear out. The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase replacements at appliancepartspros.com for about $5.

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

I have a top loading Whirlpool LSC8244EQ0 in which the top part of the agitator does not move? It looks like there needs to be some sort of dowel?

The top part of the agitator is called the "auger". If the auger no longer moves when the agitator does, you probably need to replace the agitator dogs. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

Replacements sell for about $5 at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in your model number and look for item 10 under the "Agitator, Tub and Basket" heading. For about $11, you can purchase item 9, which is the entire agitator repair kit (includes the dogs). This will ensure you have all the parts you need, just in case there's more than just the dogs that are worn.

If you have questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

On my Kenmore 22931 washer the bottom part of the agitator moves but the top part does not. My wife thinks it the clutch part (part no 387091) but I thought I'd ask before I try and take it apart or find...

The agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced. Remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.

MAYTAG LEGACY MODEL # SAV205DAWW

I've got the same problem. The diagram is a bit deceiving because it appears to show the agitator/auger as one piece. However, the bolt only holds the agitator (lower portion) and then the auger slips in place over that. The fabric softener cup then snaps to the top of the auger.

Best I can tell is that the slotted 'ears' on top of the agitator are worn thus preventing a secure fit between the agitator and auger. I just finished putting some hard thumb pressure on each of the ears and bent them outward some. The auger fits much tighter now and I'm doing a test run of clothes. It is holding but I will probably have to replace what they describe as the agitator / auger assembly, costs $53.54. I don't see any other fix but would appreciate further input.

Thanks

My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Ok, sorry it took so long to write.  You listed the washer as a Calypso, but it didnt look righ, so did some investigative work for you.  What your describing I believe, is that the agitator top half (or the auger as well them) is sitting still and the bottom half if moving.  During the wash cycle, the top half is just sitting still.  If this is wrong, please let me know.  If this is right, you have a sort of simple fix.  Remove the top cap of the auger, pry gently between the cap and the agitator, the plastic cap will come off.  When you remove the cap, you will see another cap (sometimes you do, sometimes you dont) it will be white or dirty clear in color if its there.  You can put your finger on the lips and lift it straight off.  Then you will see a cap with a bolt in the center.  Remove this bolt (7/16" with long extension).  the agitator dogs (Sears part #387091) 387091.jpg.  You should see these under that last cap tha had the bolt in it.  Remove the auger (just slide it up and off), remove the dog holding cap.  Remove the dogs, but be sure you remember the way they go back in.  Next is the tricky part.  Take the cap upside-down, and place it back in the auger.  Quickly turn it back over, making sure the ag dogs dont fall out of position (you will be hating me the first couple time, just keep at it), then, with a long pair of needle nose, place the bolt you removed back in the hole.  Take your extension with socket, hold the bolt firmly, and slide the auger back on to the top of the agitator.  Make sure the locks and stuff fit right between the two.  Tighten the bolt (just snug, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, you will split the cap).  If all goes well and right, you should be able to roll the auger one way and not the other.  If you need any further help, or need someone to yell at when the dogs keep falling out, give me a shout, and we'll help you along.  Good Luck!!!!!     Jim
