Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

After about 2 loads of laundry, the washing machine will leak from somewhere underneath. (all connections to the wall are dry/not leaking) After emptying the load I noticed the washer still sounds like it's full of water behind the barrel (never noticed this before). Do I need a new machine?

My whirlpool duet front load has been leaking. It leaks only when doing a load of laundry. Leak is coming out the back and on the right side. Took the front bottom off to see if I can see anything and...

First, make sure that the washing machine is not too close to the wall behind it. This could crimp the drain hose & force water out at the connection behind the machine. This could also crack/split the washer machine's port (to which the drain hose attaches). Second, check the hose clamp for a secure hold at the washer machine's port, & check the drain hose for leaks & for insertion in the drain tube at the wall.

Leaking Washer

There is a pump underneath the machine. The pump might be bad. Pretty easy fix. It was a top load washer.

Water leaks from bottom of washer a day after I've done laundry

My guess is you have a slow leak in the inlet. Probably somewhere after the valve. Try turning the valves off between washes. If that fixes it you know it's an inlet leak. There is usually a pair rubber hoses (same connectors as a garden hose) connecting the washer to the inlet valves. In order of ease/price of fixing:
  • one of the gaskets in the hoses is cracked ($0.05)
  • one of the hoses has a crack or isn't sealing properly ($10)
  • the valve outside the washer is leaking ($15 if you DIY, $150 for plumber)
  • The connector or valve in the washer is leaking ($20-$30 if you DIY, $$$ if you pay a repairman, $0 if it's under warranty)

Hot point wm vlsr1090g3ww leaking

Is this a top loading machine? Are you seeing water flowing through the overflow or are you thinking that may be your problem? Asking because I've personally never had a prob with that tube. Leaks have always been attributed to other causes. Top loading hotpoint leaks are usually caused by a leaking transmission seal, water drain pump, inlet valve or faulty pressure switch. Need more info sorry.

Washing machine leaking water from underneath

It is possible it is just a loose hose or it could mean your trmp or the tub itself is leaking. I would try going to the back of the machine and take off the bottom panel.and take off the back panel. After removal start it and observe where the leak is happening.

If all connections were dry, the water may have overflowed the top of the tub during a spin /rinse cycle. That could happen if there was a lot of water (i.e. set for large load) and a small amount of clothes.
