Question about Garmin nuvi 765T GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I have 765T Garmin. It won't charge from cigarette lighter. REturned first Garmin to company, got a "newly refurbished" unit, so it's different. Still won't charge from car. Cable lights up, replaced fuse, still no go. Tried in two different cradles. Still won't run from car cigarette lighter. So it's not the Garmin, doesn't appear to be the cable, and doesn't seem to be the cradle. Ideas?

If its an oem garmin charger and the green light is on and still wont charge, then the problem is most likely the power port on the back of your garmin...if its not the factory charger, get one for a garmin..that should solve your problem...if not, let me know

let me know if you need more help or info

Low battery

You need to plug it into to the cigarette lighter or your pc. I take mine in the house and connect it to the pc to charge, but it will charge with the cigarett lighter too.

I have recently purchased the Garmin nuvi 765T and I have charged it and waited to use in the car but after a few seconds of turning it on, it turns itself off after showing the "Garmin" company...

Try to soft reset it by holding the power button for at least 20 seconds till it restarts.

If that doesn't help - try a master reset to factory defaults by holding the lower right corner during startup for at least 20 seconds. This will erase all user data and starts the Garmin in factory default.

If it restart I suggest updating the software to the latest version on

When I plug my Garmin Nuvi 765T into my car charger, it does not charge. Has the cord gone bad? Can I charge my Garmin through my computer?

The fuse may have blown in the charger. THe fuse is in the plug that goes into the cigarette lighter socket. Unscrew the ring near the tip of the socket being careful not to lose the tip. The socket comes apart when you remove the ring. Replace the fuse and it should be ok.

You can charge the satnav from your computer but it will take around 8 hours, twice as long as the car charger. Just connect it to your computer and turn both on to charge it.

I have a garmin nuvi 765 and the screen does not come on at all. it worked fine before this. I dont use it a whole lot but i miss it...i tried plugging the unit in different vehicles, thinking that...

Did you get this working? if not, try connecting to your computer's USB port over night and turn on again. Install in the cradle in the car - if it goes out or none of the traffic receiver's LEDs do not light, check / replace the fuse in the tip of the power plug or the cigarette lighter fuse in the car's fuse panel.

Can my newly refurbished Garmin Nuvi 1200 GPS be charged in the car while the car is off?

Depends on the car. Most cars turn off the power to the cigarette lighter socket when the car is off.

When using wire in car, Garmin won't turn on, it starts, shows a low battery sign and shuts down. Was working fine on recent trip. It seems no power is reaching GPS. Nuvi 765T

Most likely the fuse in the charger plug has blown. The plug that goes into the cigarette lighter socket has a ring near the end. On most chargers it's silver but some of them are black. If you unscrew this ring the plug comes apart. Be careful not to lose any parts. You'll see the fuse in there. Replace it and it should be ok.
The other possibility is that the cigarette lighter socket is not working. You can check that easily enough by trying something else in it.

My Nuvi255 will only work on external power (cigarette lighter) almost like there is no internal battery installed

Have you tried charging this through other sources such as a usb or ac charger (please ensure the unit is off when attached to power to enter charge mode) as it may be the cable itself faulty, if it still doesn;t hold charge then the unit is faulty and should be returned to your local store

Charging unit with AC adapter

I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .
