The most likely cause is that the battery has aged- this problem was reported by other people on the net. Try hooking up an adapter to the camera to see if it fixes it. Another person on the net reported that a battery would cost him $120, so, depending on the type and age, it may not be worth the cost of repair to have it fixed. Google the model + battery and you'll get some choices on the net. Then you'll have to make the choice of repair or replace with a newer one.
If the problem isn't the battery, it could be a loose ribbon connector or other fault within the camera, and would need servicing. Get an estimate before having it repaired, as it can be costly.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

A thick blue horizontal line appeared in my LCD screen and won't go away. I can still take pictures and they print out fine, but how can I get rid of the blue line?

This is probably a problem with your LCD monitor or the connections to it. Does the blue line show in all situations such as record, playback, and menu mode?
Test your monitor by plugging into your camera the TV cord that came with your camera. Connect to a TV and use it as a monitor when your camera is on. be sure to switch to the TV to channel three or video to get a picture. Check the different screen modes: record, play, and menu. If the blue line does not appear on the TV then there is damage to your monitor or its connections. My guess is you won't see the blue line on your TV since you get good prints. If you are on warranty, get it fixed. Otherwise, you have a choice between paying for a repair or living with it. Good luck.

Cannot turn off progressive scan mode on blue screen to play dvd

If you have not already seen this or done it - it worked for us:

On page 18 of the user manual under Progressive scan there is a Caution which says - If you set Progressive Scan to On in error, you must reset the unit. 1) Remove any disc from the unit and close the disc tray. See that "dISC " is displayed on the display window. 2) Press STOP (9) and hold it for more than five seconds before releasing it. The video output will be restored to the standard setting and a picture once again be visible on a conventional analog TV or monitor.
