Ice trap on freezer door is broken

I noticed that the ice was either falling out or stacking up inside.Looking from below I can see that the right "arm" of the lever was not in the small metal ring. When I put the arm in the ring the entire Ring/button fell out of place. Am I able to remove the front panel of the ice/water dispensor to get a good look and see what needs to be repaired. It has a casing around it, but I did not want to pry open unless it was meant to be accessed for repairs. I can not see any way to the device from the inside of the door. The water dispensor works fine.
I did get the ring/button in a place(blind guess) ,but the system still seemd off kilter. i can't locate the manuel. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I called Sears and am told I have to replace the entire freezer door! You can take off the front panel -- there are clips at the bottom underside of the panel.

Did you resolve your problem?

Frost builds up on outside of ice maker

The little door that opens and lets the ice fall into Your cup is not closing all the way, allowing cold air to escape from Your Freezer and causing frost to build up. Simply look up at it or open the Freezer door and place a lit flashlight in the ice chute so You can see where the light is shining through the ice dispenser at. There should be a build-up of ice there that is keeping the "trap door" from closing all the way. Clean that off and You should be as good as new.

The problem can be temperature not set properly or any of fridge or freezer door not closed properly and cool air is getting leaked out. This are basic possibilities which first needs to be checked. But if this possibilities are checked ok and still the problem is same, then its weak compressor issue. Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.

Ge, tfx26kpda ww, ice maker only dispences crushed ice

At least yours is making ice. Mine wount even make ice. While toubleshooting my prob, I notice a metal rod on the bottom of the ice tray. This rod opens and shuts a plastic "trap door" in the tray. The position of that door determines whether the ice is crushed or whole. If the trap door is open the ice falls through the dispenser freely. If the door this closed the ice is force thorugh metal teeth where it is crushed then dispensed. Open the freezer door and take the ice tray out. You should see a hole at the back of the freezer that the metal rod goes through. In that hole there is a plastic square that moves up and down. If the set your dispenser to crushed ice, leave the door open, push in the door switch at the bottom, and press the dispenser. The plastic square does nothing while the motor is turning. That allows the door to stay closed and forces the ice through the metal teeth. If you set the dispenser to whole ice and do the same thing the plastic square is suppose to lift up forcing the door open and letting the whole ice drop freely. The plastic square probably does nothing even if you set it to whole ice. That mean the trap door never opens focing the ice to always get crushed.

Unfortunately, I have no solution because mine works and I had no need to investigate further. I hopes this helps you figure out the problem though

Good Luck.

fault is probably the door seal. to check seal, use a slip of paper trapped between door seal and cabinet

Ice Maker Trap door may be broken

I am having the same problem. My husband took off the front panel and we discovered there is a small piece of plastic holding the ice dispenser door in place that is broken so the door doesn't seal.

I called Sears to see if the part is replaceable -- it's not. I have to buy an entire freezer door for $464 because a .10 cent piece of plastic is broken.

This seems to be a common problem. My refrigerator is only 3 years old. Perhaps we need to make a complaint to Sears/Kenmore together.

Ice machine works great, but will not dispense

I just repaird a unit with this same symptom. Yours may be the same. The plastic part that holds the switch was broken (pins). See the diagram at http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Whirlpool/KAZVHYR3.gif Item 15 is the part. The switch sets on a coupld pins and the pins break easily, thus the switch falls off and the dispensor lever can't operate it. If you look up inside with a flashlight you can see the switch, etc. and should be able to tell if it's held in place properly.
