Question about Washing Machines
I have a Kenmore top-loading washer that is seven years old. After the rinse water drains out and immediately prior to starting the spin cycle, it makes a series of thumping sounds, then starts to spin. At this point, it will often (but not always) trip the 20A breaker on its circuit. Normally it draws 6-8 amps, but as it begins to spin, the current shoots up to around 21 amps and hangs there for 5-7 seconds. The breaker usually trips at that point. However, sometimes the machine will finish an entire cycle without tripping the breaker. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
