Question about Broan-NuTone 273603 Kitchen Hood
Gail was spot on. That worked for me until the unit would go up and/or down on its own. The problem was traced to the double microswitch called the 'Lower Switch Bracket Assembly' ($24. thru Lowes ). To replace these switches is not for the faint of heart as it is deep within the assembly. A good weekend mechanic can look at the exploded parts diagram and see what / where. Found grease residue on- and slightly within- the microswitchs due to Broan not properly design shielding and protecting these critical switches from grease. Did not find any ghosts, however.

After 11 years of use, the same problem just happen a few days ago - fan keeps running, doesn't respond to the on/off switch. Also cannot reset filter alert. As far as I can tell the entire switch panel isn't working. Or worse, shorted out. Might have to replace the ribbon and some switches.
For example the switches can be found at AllVikingParts.com For example --> http://www.allvikingparts.com/Button_Switch_Assy_p/pv300182.htm
There's a another thread on this forum: http://www.fixya.com/support/t410261-viking_downdraft_ventilator_electrical
I'll post the exact solution as soon as I have it figured out completely.

When you made the adjustment the adjustment for the switch membrane was adjusted to much and is in constant contact with the switch membrane. Therefore it cannot retract. Remove the switch cover and readjust the position switch bracket so the activating switch just barely makes contact with the underside of the switch membrane. Anything more than this will cause it to stay i the up position.
