Computer does not recognize camera

I acquired a F460 and I purchased a new battery and when I inserted it, the camera would turn on. So I purchased a USB cable to download the pictures and it worked the day that I got the cable but when I went to use the camera it would not turn on and I noticed that the computer is not even recognizing the camera. Could the driver be outdated. I am using Vista.
