Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Panasonic PT-47WX53G television power problem. TV will turn on (with no picture) for about 3-10 seconds...then immediately shut off. It will not turn back on again until I unplug it, and then plug it back in - to do the exact same thing. Red error code on front of TV will blink 3 times, then pause, then blink 3 times again. From what I've read - appears to be a problem with the short protection in the tv. Do you have any instructions on how to replace parts to fix this? Manuals, pics, or anyway to tell which parts are which on the circuit board? I found a thread online that had some possible suggestions for this problem (1. regulator IC needs to be replaced, 2. bad coupling capacitor from the circuit to the fail safe circuit, 3. defective failsafe trigger transistor, 4. defect in the wave shaper off the flyback transformer that feeds the comparator IC to measure high voltage...) I don't know anything about TV's...but am willing to try a DIY fix if the parts are cheap. Does this sound like a common problem? If so, any help is greatly appreciated. Any ideas on where to find replacement parts? Thank you!

Thanks for the link. I've downloaded the service manual - and I do not have much experience with circuitry. I will have a friend helping who is capable/experienced. There are lots of files in the zip folder - what am I looking for first?

  • steve95433 Nov 08, 2010

I located some charts that list all the voltages of each board. What I can't find is a schematic of just the board to know what I'm looking at to compare to the chart. Is it in that link/file? Maybe I missed it...

I found the HTML file labled 53WX53G - and was able to open it to display the links (red font). It will not allow me to open any of those links - just goes to a "file not found" promp. Any ideas?

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

after I opened the original HTML file... I can't open anything beyond that. I can see the entire list of links, which is organized like an outline in red/pink writing. I can see section 21 with "A board" links...however can't get anything when I click there. Just goes and says "no page found" or something along those lines. It is like the origin of the document has changed location or something...not sure.

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

I'm still having problems. Sorry for all the mess. I tried it on two different computers also. I can open all the zip files, open the 53...html file. I get to the "table of contents" page...but I can get anywhere past that. I keep getting the same prompt about no file found...I copied and pasted below:

    File Not Found

Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Documents and Settings/Sue/Local Settings/Temp/wze8ab/PT-53WX53G/NA/PT-53WX53G/SVC/s2101000000.html#21.1.

    * Could the item have been renamed, removed, or relocated?
    * Is there a spelling, capitalization, or other typographical error in the address?
    * Do you have sufficient access permissions to the requested item?

    ******************
Is there any other way to download the files I need? Or anywhere else to get them online?

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

I feel like I am going crazy, or am completely computer incompetent. I tried it with Firefox first - and then tried to just open that folder you listed on its own already - It has the title on the top - but the picture is not showing. I can see the little icon where the picture should be - but won't open it. Is this possibly a setting on my computer or a program I don't have downloaded to allow me to see the photo(s)?

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

Sorry for all this extra work. We haven't even started with the original problem yet! What do you mean chat on yahoo or gmail? I don't have a yahoo acct, but have a gmail email...? Are there chat functions on both somehow? Let me know what you'd like me to do. Thanks for your help.

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

Would it be better if I first removed the board and had it in front of me? I'm currently at work - TV at home... As for removing the board - anything special to look out for. It looks like its connected about a 12-15 times - most of which look like they are pre-labeled to the position they go. For any unmarked ones, I'm planning on marking them with just tape. Do I need to do this first?

  • steve95433 Nov 09, 2010

I don't see any pdf's in the SVC folder labeled "a_board." I can see 7 files that start with "a_....", none of which are the correct one.

First up you need to get this service manual. Once its done let me know and I will tell you how to test the circuits . I am assuming you have a multimeter and know how to work safely on high voltage electronics

You are looking for the schematics of the power supply board. There are voltages marked in that like 5V, 3.3V etc., He needs to ensure that the set is turned on and check for the specified voltages to see if any of them exceed the values shown in the schematic. If he cannot figure out anything, anything at all then let me know and I will be glad to be of help.

Open the html file in the SVC folder titled "53WX53G". It will display the index html file. Scroll to section 21 conductor views and click on the links related to the A-board. Its the power supply board. When you click on that link, you will see a page with an icon that has a magnifying glass on the letter A. Click on to open the PDF. There are 4 different versions of the schematic and some of them with the voltages.

    which files? The PDFs?

Well I just downloaded it again and extracted. It is linking me to the correct html file. Download it again try. You may have inadvertently deleted some files.

Not necessary. You can just open the s2101000000.html file from the SVC folder. Any other files quoted missing can be opened in a similar way. By the way I am using Firefox, so if you are using Internet explorer download Firefox and install it. See if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't work either follow the alternative plan mentioned above.

Its ok not a problem. I will help you read it. Can we chat on yahoo or gmail. Because its obvious you are missing something and it will be easier to help you read it if we can just chat. I usually do not like to expose my e-mail ID but here it seems like we don't have a choice.

Yes if you add me to gmail, we can talk, if you add me to your contact list. goodwise24@gmail.com is my ID. However I am about to take a short break and will get back to you in 2-3 hours. As for the extra work, don't worry about that. I don't mind it at all.

    Ok. I am back.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Nov 09, 2010

No you do not need to mark it. Its very easy to locate it. Locate the pdf in the SVC folder titled a_board. All the other a_ files are the different versions of schematics of the board. Be careful. The diagnosis has to be performed without removing the board from the chassis, and that makes it a bit more dangerous. Be sure not to touch any capacitors. They hold residual voltages and can give nasty shock that can result in permanent disability if not death.

Ok. I have confirmed it. Lets talk there and I will help you read the service manual.
