Hi,
Im not sure it is the memory you are trying to fix here, as memory is always the same when you get a PC. You can not change the state of the RAM or memory of this. But what you maybe getting is a not enough memory to run a certain program as your memory or RAM is too small. In this case you need to get larger memory cards or RAM cards.
Let me know if you need more information.
Thanks
Jason

I got a computer at a yard sale its old but the man who sold it too me didn't tell me it had password and username

if it is a HP computer, and many others, you can turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the F11 key,(before the main screen pops up) - then follow the prompts and allow plenty of time - this takes awhile. this puts the computer back to the original Factory Settings like out of the box. this is a full system Recovery I had a friend with same issue, bought really nice computer but the guy didn't know the password (so he probably bought it the same way!) she did the F11 and fixed the problem

Computer with vista 7 boots up to a black screen with a flashing underscore cursor. I can only use the f10 key. what do i need to do or where do i start to fix this problem.

First Make sure to Remove all external devices and media. Be sure to check the optical drive, flash memory slot and try once again to boot to BIOS by tapping f10 make sure you start tapping the f10 key as soon as you power on the NB if boot to BIOS then do a BIOS default by pressing f9 and then f10 to restart the NB press enter if prompted

check if the issue is resolved or if you not able to get into BIOS by f10 then run the Hard drive test from Diagnostics then is F2
power on the NB tap f2 to boot to Diagnostics and run self test for hard drive and if the fails then hard drive needs to be replaced or if the test passes and still issue is not resolved

then Re-Seat the Memories on then if still issue not resolved

then try F11 recovery this will format the Hard drive an install the fresh copy if operating system still same issue or unable to run recovery then contact manufacturer

Turn on the system and immediately start Tapping F11 by holding the Ctrl Key.
It will take you to the recovery page wherein you will be able to select the option to restore the computer to original Factory Condition.

if you want to restore the computer to the factory settings.
restart the comptuer. immediately hold down the CONTROL key and start tapping F11 key.
Note : all of the data and software would be lost. Your computer will be restored to factory settings like a newly brought system.
IF this does work then go to bios, and make cd rom as the first boot devices, hit f10. now, hit "escape" once and select, "save" and hit enter.
Now, comptuer will be restarted. Now,start tapping space bar, It will boot from the disk.
else restart the computer and again start tapping spacebar at the startup.

You have to press F11 and keep on pressing it but not hold it down. Some menu appears, wouldn't know because i got an HP but with Dells should have a menu for system restore. So just press and keep on tapping it till some bios menu appears that give you more options.
