The unit does not have a battery????? I t only has a cord
That was a waste of $6.00
I see why you have a term of use, when you have no idea what the problem is.
Never ever will I use you again

You might as well check if you can turn on using only the battery. If it wont, then try to push the power button for 8 secs after you remove the battery and power cord. Then reinsert power cord, and turn it on. If it still no good, then call escort because this issue is something to do with the system board inside of it. It does not react to the situation wherein you have plug the working power cord and a working battery.

Not getting power

Fuse in the power cord ok? Fuse in the vehicle's ligher socket ok? Does the lighter socket power other devices? Power switch is in the "ON" position?

Check these steps first.

Passport 8500 will no longer switch to LOUD mode

Try doing a factory reset as described in the user manual since it is possible that a power fluctuation has somewhat corrupted the internally saved user settings.
