Question about Sony Handycam DCR-PC100 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Malfunction of the Sel/Push Exec button on my Sony Handycam DCR-PC100. When I hit the Menu button, then try to turn the Sel/Push Exec button, it won't select anymore than a few items. the selection function is unstable, not allowing me to solidly select any item. When I have highlighted an item, it skips when I push the wheel to select, and it selects a different item than what i intended. If anyone has had this problem and knows the solution, I would greatly appreciate your advice and experience on this problem. Thanks. -- Joe Bush

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: menu select dial problem

It will not let me out of the title area. The menu will only show me the option under the different headings but will not go to the format section nor other sun sections. Have tried a new memory stick and get the fast blinking error with the new one too.

SOURCE: transferring video from tape to PC

Hi. I do know how to do that. You need some software that's capable of controlling the camera such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or something like that. I believe Microsoft Movie Maker will do it and so will Roxio Media Creator which is the package they sell that burns CDs and DVDs as well. It's a whole media center.

The camera has the capability of being controlled through the firewire port on the front. You get a cable for the firewire port on the camera (firewire mini 4 pin) that goes to the computer (firewire 4 pin standard size). If you have an older computer with no firewire and it does have a PCMCIA card slot sometimes called a PC slot, or express card slot ... you can buy cards that will give it firewire ports.
You MUST have firewire to do this. The newer machines like the Acer Aspire One or any of the netbooks don't have any way to add firewire although the CPU is fast enough for video work. I capture on my old computer with firewire, and save the video to an external hard drive and edit on the netbook. Anyhow, I'm getting sidetracked!

Open your editing program and have it do a movie capture. The capture window will have buttons that look like the ones on the camera for fast forward, reverse, play, stop, etc. plus a couple for single frame reverse and forward which is useful for editing. It will also have a record button on the software. Play the tape and just as you start it, hit record. It should capture and you'll see a little data window on some software showing the frames captured and dropped during capture. That's about all there is to it. Editing is a bit trickier and I'm still learning alot of it. You can get older copies of Premiere online from a number of different sites. It's my personal favorite. It does more ... but the movie making software Microsoft provides with Windows XP and above will perform the capture perfectly well. Good luck with it.

If you have trouble, I'll be happy to get online in a chat session and talk you through it if that would help. I'm on AOL and my email is ljmagnuson@aol.com.

for the dcrtrv320 here's how you do it.ensure you have the power switch set to camera/vtr. press the menu button. will give you little icons on the screen (you should see manual set or vtr set). scroll down to the icon the looks like a tape (tape set). use the sel/push exec dial (it's the dial near the menu button, bottom of the viewfinder and left side of the batt) you scroll it up/down and push it in to confirm your selection.in tape set you have rec mode (press sel/push exec dial in)scroll to sp and press sel/push exec dial again to confirm setting. press menu to exit menu settings. hope this helps.thanks :)

Using Windows 7 virtual machine (via Parallels Desktop 5). When I plug in my sony DCR-PC100 mini-DV camcorder Windows doesn't see it.

Windows 7 sucks. Try "downgrading" to Win XP. I've had many problems with my new computer which had Windows 7, which have all been solved after I made the downgrading.

Changing my record mode from SP to LP

In order to change the menu settings you must 1.)turn on the power 2.) Touch FN to display PAGE 1. 3.) Touch MENU to display menu. Use the arrow buttons to scroll until the TAPE SET menu is highlighted. Press the exec button to reveal SP in RECORD MODE. Press it again to bring up a menu that will give you the choice of SP or LP. When you're done press the exec. button a couple of times and you're done. Do Keep that even though the tape will run 1.5 its normal length there are certain features that cannot be used while in Long Play (LP) mode. I have a sony camera but was looking at your model camera yesterday. I noticed that many of the menus and navigations were the same. I'm assuming that my directions will at least allow you to know what menu to look for. Good Luck.
