Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

6 Answers

Good Evening. The problem appears to lie in my laptop mousepad, 2 days ago while writing a letter the cursor suddenly changed its appearance from a T like figure with crossbar at bottom too. changed to an arrow pointing North North West or five minutes to the hour, on trying to move it, it has been impossible, its just frozen, but only on my laptop mousepad. When I rigged up in my bedroom using a conventional wireless mouse on mat, it worked o-k, its just on the pad that its frozen. Could you offer any assistance please. The model is Toshiba Satellite L30, and I am still under warrantee having updated to an extra 2 years in 25 Jan 2008. Kindest Regards. Harvey Williams. P.S. As it was a gift I dont have the download discs, it came loaded from a family member.

OR better go for the WARRANTY - you already paid for it, might as well use it.

Well as long as it is still under warranty, don't attempt anything but sending it in as opening it up can void the warranty. Either a connection got loose of the mouse pad went bad. Sounds like a simple fix but if still under warranty, give the manufacturer a call and see what they want you to do. If they let you replace it yourself, that would probably be fastest. Let me know if you have any other questions.

good luck

you also should check to make sure either on the pad or in the softwares control panel, that its not disabled. I know my synaptics surface mouse has a button on the outside that you can press and it disables it. Or if you install it, it should have the utility in the sytems tray (bottom right hand corner of the start bar). Check that to make sure the synaptics utility didnt somehow disable the mouse.

i was posting long before samisam waiting to help you and you never came back and posted anything on your problem. FN and F9 is the same thing as right clicking the mouse utility and hitting enable.

    Thanks though,

    Nathan

Sure, go into Control Panel, Mouse and double click. Once in the property sheets for mouse, select Glide Pad. There should be a button to reset defaults. And, you can set sensitivity amongst others. Make you changes and reboot.

My first impression of your problem was that you weren't active in your document and perhaps an Alert box had popped up behind your window. But, Windows is easily glitched and I don't think you have a broken part. Reset your Glide Pad in Mouse properties and reboot. If that should fail, use System Restore from My Computer Properties to roll back to a date prior to this happening.

Worldvet

It sounds like the mouse pad built into the laptop has gone bad, since it is in service I would send it in through them.
If this solution isn't satisfying please let me know,
Thanks,
Lee

Do you know the exact model of the laptop? I believe there should be some numbers after the 30 I might be able to see if this a common issue. Like I said being that it is under warranty it's almost certain the mouse pad has gone bad.
    Keep me updated,
    Lee

There's a FN+F6 i believe that turns the touch pad on and off. try using this first. this has solved many touch pad issues for users in the past.

Text writing is weird. I write and part of the word appears a sentence away?

Ha, it's because your wrist or thumb is touching the mousepad occasionally - some are more sensitive than others.

Try turning the mousepad off while typing, sometimes there is a button at the mousepad area, others it's an Alt-Function key. Look for a symbol on the F-keys that look like a finger touching a square or mousepad. This, and the Alt key combination will shut it off and then back on again when you select them.
An external or USB keyboard and mouse works great for me.

As I suggested in my last post, you have a hard drive issue.

I think there is a problem with your mousepad. It has become too sensitive even if you are not touching it. You will need it checked by a tech.

My Electronic crossword puzzles by RadioShack comes on but will not do anything. I just put in new batteries. I do not have my manual.

Adjusting The Display

To increase or decrease the display's contrast so it is easier to read,
hold down FUNCTION, then press /\ or \/ on the cursor pad.

Playing The Game

1. Press ON/OFF to turn on the game.

If you have not worked a puzzle since installing or replacing the
batteries, CROSSWORD MASTER appears. Otherwise, the display is as it
was when the game was turned off.

2. To start a new puzzle at any time, press FUNCTION and 1 (I), 2 (O), or
3 (P) at the same time. 1 is for beginner-type games, and 2 and 3
increase in difficulty. NEW GAME LEVEL 1, 2, OR 3 Y/N appears.

3. Press Y to start a new puzzle. A crossword grid with flashing cursor
appears (O).

Otherwise, press N. The display appears as it was when you pressed
FUNCTION and 1, 2, or 3.

4. Press (or hold down) /\, \/, <, or > on the cursor pad to move the
cursor around the puzzle.

5. With the flashing cursor in the desired location, press ? to see the
clue(s) for the word(s) in that location.

Any letters you already entered appear, along with a dash for each
missing letter. The number of letters appears in parentheses - for
example, (5) for a solution with 5 letters. If the solution includes
more than one word, the number of letters for each word appears in the
format - for example, (5, 3, 4) for a solution with three words.

If the flashing cursor appears at the junction of two words (across
and down), both clues appear, across first, then down.

6. Press ? again to return to the crossword display, then use the letter
keys to type your answer.

If the flashing cursor was at the junction of two words and you enter
the first letter of your answer, two small arrows appear in the
adjacent across and down squares. Before typing the rest of your
answer, press > or \/ (across or down) on the cursor pad to indicate
which word you are entering.

Press /\ on the keyboard to erase the letter just above, and < to
erase the letter to the left of, the flashing cursor.

To erase a word, hold down FUNCTION and press WORD DELETE (Z).

To spell check the puzzle at any time, hold down FUNCTION and press
SPELL (T). The [+] symbol indicates the location of each incorrect
letter.

When you complete a crossword correctly, GAME COMPLETED appears.

7. Press ON/OFF to turn off the game. The current puzzle is saved.

Good evening, I just bought a new Packerd Bell laptop and i discovered a small but really annoying problem. When I am playing a game, I type and using the mouse at the same time. The only thing is when...

Check the mousepad settings in control panel. There are settings and programs that disable the mousepad when typing. A slight brush across the mousepad can send the cursor to odd places in your document.

There is also a small app that disables the mousepad when you type as well. Check your processe in task manager to see if there is such a program running in the background.

You may be dragging your hand across the touchpad pointing device, which would move the cursor, then select the new location. Best fix: Turn off "tapping" under Mouse Properties.
