To remove it, turn off the laptop, remove the cables and battery on it, Remove the hard drive by unscrewing the screws in laptop corners. Then remove the optical drive by removing also the screws. Then remove the fan and also remove the keyboard. Once you see the motherboard, push the side of the CMOS circle battery to lift it up and that is how you remove it.

The battery in several sony's I've had to service is under the speaker/power switch section above the keyboard. You will see a screw, possibly next to the memory card slot, top left side. Unscrew the single screw, and CAREFULLY slide the top piece over then lift up to remove...but be CAREFUL because there are 2 flat ribbon cables attached to connect the piece to the motherboard. On 3 different sony systems the battery has been under this section. They are ridiculously expensive, so look for a generic replacement or be prepared to fork out at least $25 for a tiny battery or more!.

Hello,

Please tell me why are you trying to remove the battery?

- it will not remove a password, it may bring up a security password and you can no longer use the laptop.

Even if you get to the battery and remove it, its more than likely it wont remove the password.

Please get in touch with sony for repair and support
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/contact...

We had a similar problem last year after the battery was removed the machine started asking for a password the instant it was turned on so it made the problem worse, we did get that solved by performing emergency bios recovery on that laptop, but thats really something that we can't do over the internet for you. Sonys going to solve this problem for you, contact them.

Not for free I don't think so.

I want to clear CMOS

The CMOS is a block of static RAM that will lose its data if power is removed.
most newer laptops are using a small block of Flash RAM (perhaps a block of addresses within the Flash BIOS chip itself) or other type of EEPROM chip to store the password.

No amount of removing batteries and pressing power buttons will change it

HAVE TRIED CHANGE THE CMOS BATTEWHAT CAN I DO NXTRY TO REMOVE BIOS PASSWORD BUT IT COUDNT WORK,?

Sony Vaio PCG and some Vaio VGN Series use the last 7 digits of the laptop serial number to calculate the bios master password. The serial number for a Sony Vaio is often located on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker. The serial number may also be found by removing the battery and checking in the battery compartment. The link to unlockbiosrecovery.com below works on the following models:
PCG-C, PCG-F, PCG-GR, PCG-GRS, PCG-GRT, PCG-GRV, PCG-GRX, PCG-GRZ, PCG-N, PCG-NV205, PCG-QR, PCG-R, PCG-SR, PCG-SRX, PCG-TR, PCG-V, PCG-VX, PCG-X, PCG-Z, VGN-B, VGN-FS, VGN-S, VGN-T, VGN-TX1, VGN-X
I use http://www.unlockbiosrecovery.com/Unlock_Sony_Bios.php
For $20 they use the last 7 digits of the laptop serial number to calculate the bios master password and then email it to you in an hour. They guarantee it to work and you can call them if you have a question.

Y need bios password for SONY VAIO PCG-983M .Please help.

There is no generic BIOS password. If there is one on your computer then someone set it up. If you cannot find that person or remember what it is then you need to reset the BIOS. To reset the BIOS you need to remove all power from the system. Then you will need to open up the notebook to get access to the motherboard to find the BIOS battery which will look like a large watch battery. Remove that for about 1 minute. Then replace everything and start up again.

NEED TO CLEAR BIOS PASSWORD

Hi

BIOS passwords can be reset in two ways,
1. using software 2. using hardware.

I would first try resetting using software, here are two software's to reset or retrieve BIOS passwords.

!BIOS - is a PC BIOS toolkit offering password removal/decrypt and BIOS settings modification/backup/restore.

CmosPwd - Cmos password recovery tools

I have a sony pcg-grt360 laptop, and I need to install XP from external cd-rom - I can not get into the bios to make the changes to select boot sequence - I need to remove the existing password

Unfortunately this laptop uses the restrictive style of BIOS password. Meaning if you can remove the cmos battery there is a good chance it will not forget the password.

Unfortunately the only way to truly clear it is to replace the whole motherboard which is a nightmare, especially with an older machine like this.

Are you sure there is no way you can get the BIOS password / remember it? I assume that is what is going on, correct?

Please let me know, just reply to my answer here...

Thanks
Tim

Open your CPU cabinet after switching OFF the power and then try to locate the CPU battery which can be found very easily. Once you locate your battery you need to remove it once and restart your PC without the battery.
