What do you mean new IP address, you are trying to connect to the router, or are you trying to connect to the internet? If you are trying to do this from your PC, check if you have DHCP enabled. Go to [Start > Settings> Network Connections]
Then right click on Local Area Connection and select properties.
Then on the list select TCP/IP and select the properties button.
Then the window comes up you should have obtain IP address automatically radio button selected, if not do it and hit Ok then ok on the next window
Hope that helps,
Lee

WRT4G2 VI wireless router. I was upating the firmware when the power flashed. I have no access to the router's gui and the router is not broadcasting. I am not getting a dhcp address

do a hard reset for the router by pressing the reset button for 10-20 seconds...
check whether its getting a dhcp address...
if it is still not getting an ip address, then try to assign a static ip address in the range of your router on your computer...

for example...
The default ip address of linksys is 192.168.1.1.............
then assign

IP address 192.168.1.5
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1

Also assign a static DNS
Primary DNS : 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS : 8.8.4.4

Now try to open the GUI of your router...

I am trying to install the WRT160 N router, but can't install it due to having a Static IP. What should I do? The set up CD is giving the message that the the ethernet cord isn't plugged in. All I am doing...

Do not run the set up disc do it manually.
.You said that you have a static IP.
Is the static IP for the internet service provider or it is on the computer.
If you have set up the static IP on the computer then you will need to remove the static IP address from the computer and set it to obtain IP automatically.
If you have a static IP given by the ISP then you can use it to set up on the router.
Check the Ip address of the computer when connected to the router.
I believe the default gateway will be 192.168.1.1.
open the set up page of the router. default password of the router will be admin. Once you open the set up page of the rotuer, you will find the option Internet connection type. set it to STATIC IP address.
then you will get the option to enter the static IP address given by ISP.
Enter the information and Click save settings at the bottom and you will
be able to go online.

How to configure dmz on linksys wireless n router?

  1. Log into your router. (If you need help how to do it let me know!)
  2. Go to th "Application & Gaming" tab.
  3. click on "DMZ"
  4. choose "Enable"
  5. Enter the IP address of the computer you want to put in the DMZ.
  6. Click "Save Settings"
Some notes:
  • Putting a computer in a DMZ is pretty risky, because all ports to this computer are opened. Make sure that all recent patches are applied and your virus software is up to date! A more secure solution is to use portforwarding. (See this site how to do that for a specific software for your router.)
  • Your computer should be set to a static IP. For two reasons:
  • A) DMZ will not work if your DHCP server (your router) assigns at one point a different IP address to your computer,
  • B) If a different computer gets the Ip address assigned that you specified in your DMZ settings, then that machine is exposed.
If you don't know how to assign a static IP address, let me know and I walk you through the steps.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Secondary computer will not connect wirelessly; IP address problems.

If the router is not assigning an IP then you are probably not actually connecting to the network. Try disabling your wireless security on the router and see if they connect. If they do then you know the problem lies in that direction.

Wireless router install on cable modem w/static ip address set

Connect a computer to linksys lan port 1-4, point browser to linksys http://192.168.1.1 under Setup->Basic Setup->Internet Settings choose "Static IP" and fill in the fields below... the field for gateway should be set to the static ip of your cable modem. the field for netmask should probably be 255.255.255.0. It may help to turn on DHCP for local network so that lan hosts can get their ip's from the linksys.

LINKSYS ROUTER

You need to know the ip address of your dvr. It might have a factory set ip address or a dynamic ip address from the router. You can then use this ip address to access your dvr.

If your dvr has a static ip, that static ip should be in the same range as the router's ip address so that the router can communicate with the dvr.

Multiple WAN IP Addresses with a Linksys Router

Yes, however we recommend using the following procedure is the only way you can do so without a block of IP addresses. The example below is for instances where you have multiple public IP addresses that are not in block form. For our example the ISP has given us 3 Public IP addresses. One goes to the FTP server, Web Server, and the Router. You can setup the router for whomever your ISP is. If you have a dynamic IP address and you're unsure on the setup, please see the article on setting up the router with a static IP address. If you have a static IP address please our article on setting up static IP addresses with the router, and it will describe how to setup the router with a static IP address. Once the router is setup, it will provide the 3 PC's (In our example) with internet access. The remaining two public IP addresses should be assigned to the WEB Server and the FTP server. Note - The Web and FTP servers will not be on the Local Area Network of PC-1, PC-2, and PC.

Static IP on machine, now can't access web sites

Please see the related article on assigning a static IP address behind the router. If you still can not access websites, please try changing the static IP address you're using. For example if you're using the address 192.168.1.2, try 192.168.1.200. If that does not work please try the same static IP address on a different computer to see if it can use the information. If it can please try reinstalling your network card. If that doesn't work please contact Linksys Technical Support.
