Question about HP Compaq Presario C304NR Notebook

1 Answer

No power Tried to log on - was notified that battery power was low and to change batter or switch to outlet. Took the battery out and plugged in adapter. Still would not turn on. Do you know if a new battery or adapter is needed or is there a different problem? I don't want to invest in either of these if it won't solve the problem. thanks. Sharon

I appreciated the quick response and suggestions. I took the laptop to Best Buy as suggested and they told me there was a problem with the internal adapter and was directed to a repair shop.

Thanks much. I would use your site again and recommend it to others.

It the notification occurred while the AC adapter was connected to the system, then I'd suspect the AC adapter 1st.

If available, try another compatible ac adapter and see if the system powers on.

Since the system will not power on with AC adapter alone, I suspect it has failed.

Places Like Best Buy, should have a bench AC adapter you could test to see if the system powers on, if so, then buy a replacement.

If under warranty, contact HP tech support.

My acer aspire 7736G was working fine, it's about 2.5 years old, and is used mainly with the power cord plugged in. When using it the other day the computer just went dead on me. I took the batter

You have reached the end life of the battery pack. The battery must have some minimum charge to have computer function even with the AC power pack connected. So I suggest you replace the battery pack as a solution. Any local Radio Shack store can test this battery I am told free of charge.

Try to perfrom power drain. You must first turn off the computer. Take out the battery and unplug the power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 secs. Put the batter back in, plug in the power adapter and power ip the computer then observe.

Let me know if same issue will happen.

HP Laptop Battery Problem

I had a similar problems and I had my batter replace by Hp free of charge. Most like your batter could be damage internally or it could be a motherboard problem.

I suggest you visit this HP link http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/Battery_max.htm

Toshiba laptop frozen on logging off screen; won't switch off, nothing working. Tried esc, cad, now trying to run down battery. Any ideas?

I unplugged the a/c adapter, took the battery out then plugged in again and everything was fine. Otherwise, when I tried to turn off it would just sleep. But that's the way I solved it.

ELECTRICAL POWER DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK EVEN THOUGH PLUGGED IN

Try another outlet in your home. Or if it is plugged into a surge protector remove it for the surge and plug it directly into another outlet

Attempting to load but suddenly shut off..

It sounds like the laptop was in a screen off state (happens when it is left on but not used for a while).  When you pushed the power button it went to shutdown, and notified you that someone (you) is still logged on.  Any unsaved work could be lost, hence the warning.
Five minutes later when you went to switch it back on, the laptop coincidently must be low on battery, to the point where it will not stay on, and exhibits the problem you are experiencing now.  Try plugging in to power and make sure that the battery is charging, and try again.
