Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

I am connecting a wireless router, but keep getting an "not connected to the internet" message. However, I can click on Firefox or IE and get the internet just fine. Sounds simple enough, but can't get this thing to work.

You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

make sure you are hardwired to the router before configuring, access router by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. then username is admin and the password is the word password itself. all in lower case. click to wireless settings and make sure your not on the advance wireless settings. check the ssid or your network name. and make sure the security is WPA, not WEP. then type your passphrase on the blank box. its a personal password and click apply. it would take about a minute or two to apply the settings and ex out the page after its done. then try to connect your wireless again. dont use a mac computer to configure it....

First I would need to know the model of the router. I would go on netgear's website and see if there is a firmware update for your router or try a different wireless router. If the problem persists then it may be an issue with your internet provider/modem.
thank you,

Zoom 3g 4501 router gets no internet connection.

Check your internet settings in IE & Firefox. Make sure there isn't anything checked off that would prevent you from browsing. Also check your Internet & Network connections in Control Panel. I had this problem once myself with Firefox and I actually had to System Restore back a week because something I downloaded had a Trojan and infected my browsers. AIM me @ candidate4death if you need further help. Thanks!

Windows WiFi Fix,
Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.
Windows XP:
Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager Click Continue
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Adding a password

The normal method of accessing the LinkSys router is by going to your computer browser (IE or FireFox) and where the web address goes put http://192.168.1.1 Hitting the link in this post should actually bring it up.

The default setting for the LinkSys is blank for the user name and "admin" without the quotes for the password. That should bring up your router configuration application in your browser.

Click on the "Wireless" tab first, and then the "Wireless Security" sub-tab second.

There you should find your security key and the type of security setup on the router. This would be what you need to duplicate for your Netgear wireless phone.

If your settings aren't as they come by default, you can defualt the entire unit and reset it up, but hopefully that won't be necessary (only would be required if you just flat can't get to the admin panel of the router).

Hope that helps!
