Does any radio work for a 1986 camry?

As in aftermarket like a Sony or Kenwood or..???? Yes.
The easiest way to install one is to get an installation kit. One that has a bracket/face that fills the hole in the dash and the new radio sits in and a wire harness. The harness makes things so simple. You don't need to know what wire color is what. The cars factory harness plugs right in and the new radio wires will be the same color on the harness.

I need a color coding of the wiring for the harness i was given for my kenwood dpx308u. i just need to know which colors belong to which wires

Ok, you should have a wiring harness that plugs into the radio. That comes with the radio. You will need a wiring harness that is specific to your vehicle, this will plug into the vehicle harness. The wiring harness will have the correct colors to attach your radio to it. All aftermarket radios have standardized wiring. I recommend not attempting to hardwire your radio due to the risk of frying your entire electrical system. I hope this helps.

Suburu radio wire harness. trying to match up with a new soni deck

Hello uze7, Here is the wiring match up for a 2009 Subaru Forester using the Metra 70-7552 wiring harness: NOTE: The actual harness will be listed as a Nissan harness, but has been used by Subaru since 2007. Also, I'm assuming that your Sony deck uses the standard color code. If not, you should have a manual that lists the function along with the colors. Match the wiring by function, not by color (although the colors may be the same). 2009 Subaru Forester Radio Wiring Color Code: Battery BLUE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Accessory YELLOW/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination VIOLET (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer BLACK/WHITE (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna YELLOW/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) BROWN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE RF Speaker (+) BLUE/WHITE RF Speaker (-) BLUE/YELLOW LR Speaker (+) WHITE/BLACK LR Speaker (-) RED/YELLOW RR Speaker (+) GRAY RR Speaker (-) GRAY/RED Metra Harness: Yellow ? 12V Constant Red ? 12V Accessory Black - Ground Orange ? Need color codes for new radio to 99 nissan sentra

Hello jmartinatl,

The color codes for your receiver is here.

Just match the function of each wire the the appropriate wire on your vehicle. Or better yet, purchase a vehicle specific aftermarket wiring harness that plugs into the vehicle wiring.

Hope this helps.

Stereo turns off when headlights turned on

Sounds like you have the ground for the radio hooked up to the illumination ground wire. Check for orange or orange/black wire coming from the radio harness. Did you buy the harness for the car as well? If so then just match all the colors of wires from the car harness and the radio harness. By car harness I mean the harness that plugs into the harness that the original factory radio plugged in to.

Thanks

I need to know what colors mean what, so i can hook my cd player up

Red - Power
Yellow - primary power must be joined to the red
blue - Remote
Black - ground or negative
To find your speaker wires check the color of the cord behind each speaker than match it with the same color in the dash.
or the easy way is to use a normal 1.5v penlight battery and try each speaker cord behind the dash and listen to which speaker give off a crackling noise so you can get the balance on the cd player right.
If u trying to find power in the car and don't have a tester than get a 12v light or bulb join the negative to the body and push the positive wire into each one of the holes in the factory plug in the dash one at a time until the light comes on. That is your positive the rest is easy. (DIY guru)
