Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Maytag gas dryer MDL# LDG8200AAW and its great my wife would not trade it for one of the new ones at all. The problem that I'm having with the dryer is that it drys the clothes but it does not shut off, it just keeps drying until you turn it off or open the door and I have noticed that the timer knob does not rotate to the off position as the dry drys. I believe its the timer but I can be wrong. Can anyone help?

Correct, Your belief is wrong! Your wife's belief is correct, the best dryer ever made!
If this happens only when you are using it on an auto setting then it is probably an air-flow problem,a dirty exhaust system. Clean it out!

SOURCE: my kenmore dryer drys clothes

A leading cause of over heating in a dryer is a blocked vent from the back of dryer to wherever the vent exits the house,if you run the dryer and their is a good volume of air flow at the back of the dryer where vent connects to THE VENT CAN TOTALLY BE ELIMINATED AS A PROBLEM, but istead dependiging on if your model is computer controlled or has a timer and no digital display.
If computer controlled the problem is the THERMISTOR (electronic thermostat) is the problem
If analog controls the CYCLING THERMOSTAT needs to be replaced
if poor air flow from back of dryer need to check lint filter/blower housing for blockage

Good luck
I hope this helps, if it does please give me a 4 thumbs up rating

SOURCE: My Dryer won't stop drying until I open the door.

If it does this in a Timed Dry setting the timer is bad. If it does this in an Auto dry setting it could be a bad moisture sensor or a bad timer.

I HAVE A MAGTAG GAS DRYER AN WOULD LIKE TO MOVE IT TO A HOME THAT HAS ONLY ELECTRIC IS THIS POSSIBLE? Could this gas dryer be able to work as an electrical dryer?

This is not possible to change this way. The entire heat source would need to be change to convert this unit for what you seek to accomplish. I would be cheaper to buy or trade in this dryer for and electric one, you may get lucky and find a small dealer that will trade straight across, also depends on the current market you are in. But to answer your question, this would be too costly to change and cheaper to replace the unit.
I hope this helps.

I have a maytag ldg8200aaw gas dryer. it works and will dry clothes well but makes an extremely loud grinding noise as the drum turns...sometimes it even seems as if it is not engaging...I am trying to...

Your dryer is definitely worth fixing. The blower wheel is plastic 53-0106, These will wear out and get loose. Make noise and the clothes take a long time to dry. Repair Photosa9a0520.jpg

How do you replace the belt for a maytag gas dryer LDG8200AAW does the top need to come off and how looks like one peice

Good day,
Remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the front panel. Pull forward and down to remove being careful with the wires from the door switch.
You will see what has to be removed to slide the belt over the drum.
The belt is installed upside down. That is, the smooth side down.
Reinstall components to hold the drum in place.
Go to the rear and remove the access panel on the bottom right to attach the belt to the idler.
Installing the belt to the idler and motor pulley can be confusing, but Maytag supplies a picture on the bag how to. Be patient.
Once on, slowly rotate the drum to allow the belt to center (important) and finish putting the front panel on.

My Maytag LDG8200AAW does not stop automatically and does not sta

It's likely one of the coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The number for the coil kit, which will replace ALL the coils, for your machine is 279834.

Disconnect power and turn off gas before working on this dryer.

Service on gas appliances should be undertaken by professionals only due to the danger of gas leakage which can cause fires or death by asphyxiation.

The disassembly procedure is covered beginning on page 3-11 of the manual listed at the link below. Operation and replacement of coils is covered at page 3-32. Replace All coils with Kit Number listed above. Take care not to touch or hit the ignitor or you will be replacing it also. It is VERY brittle.

Reverse process to re-assemble.

Install 220 outlet for electric dryer or trade it for gas dryer?

Thanks for all the input!  We reached a compromise in hiring an electrician who was willing to come out today and install the connection for half what everyone else quoted...on a Sunday!  The laundry piling up in the corner was very persuasive in convincing us that your advice (in the end, we'd need a professional no matter which way we went) was prudent.  Thanks. jersey p
