Question about Kenmore Vacuums

1 Answer

Our kenmore progressive model #11634922 was working fine today. And then - it's not. Plugged in - nothing is working on it. We let it cool down (though it didn't seem hot). Still nothing - no light, no motor. Tried it in some other plugs that we know are functioning well - and still nothing. Any idea what might be wrong with it? It's six years old but doesn't get heavy use. Thanks so much ~ Susan Golden

Where might I find the fuse. I've looked at the owner's manual and am not able to locate it there nor on the vacuum itself.

Hi, it could be a number of things, cord may be bad as well as a problem with the motor. There also is a fuse that could have blown. If you go to sears.com, click on parts, put in your model number, when the page loads, click on the first link and you will have a parts list, and scroll down there will be a parts break-down picture that you can look at. You can also order parts thru the Sears website.

Check the plug that goes to the socket or the board panel

Kenmore progressive 360 vacuum cleaner has low suction

Check the tube that leads down to the brush head for clogging as well as any motor or HEPA filters. If that still shows nothing, take the cover off the brush head (like you're changing the belt) and look for obstructions in there. Usually, if you have low suction on the accessory hose, the problem is with a motor filter, HEPA filter, or a clog where the hose goes into the unit. If you have good suction on the accessory hose but none on the floor, it's usually in the brush head (clog or broken belt) Good luck

Loud noise from Kenmore Progressive Bagless Inteli-Clean

Here is a possible solution. If the vacuum sounds normal when the green light comes on, then the issue is a suction bypass. Kenmore built a suction bypass in to help cool down and protect the motor should someone either never clean the filter, empty the canister or somehow manage to clog the hose. There is a spring holding the bypass closed and is overridden by vacuum suction. I guess the spring becomes weak, allowing high suction to pull it open which in turn reduces suction so it closes again. It can do this several times per second making a loud racket and slightly affecting performance until the sensor goes green, then the vacuum suction is too low to overcome the spring tension thus why it sounds fine then. The trick? The very hard way (what I did) was to open the vacuum, open the casing where the spring is and pull it apart slightly to increase the spring tension. The easy way is to put tape over the hole where the bypass is. The inlet is under the hose track on the back on the right side as you're looking at it. The hole is about the size of a quarter and you'll see fins across the hole. The tape would keep the suction. The motor would still pull back the bypass but since tape is applied, there would be nothing to reduce the suction thus keeping performance and reducing the noise. However, this circumvents the intended design so you do so only at your own risk.

With out checking it, it is hard to say, I think there is a reset, did you push it? But you do have a years warranty on this, that it into Sears for repair.
