When I plug it in to my ps3 through the usb it flashes but does not sync to controller 1 or 2...just continuous red flashing lights. I don't know what happen to it to make it act that way or how to fix it. Can you help?

Is the controller completely charged? If it is, then try this
1) Manually turn on your PS3 using the power button on the PS3.
2) Take your USB charger for your controller and plug it into the USB port. (Do NOT turn on your controller yet!)
3) Plug the controller into the charger that is connected to the PS3 USB port.
4) Now turn on your controller using the middle "PS" button.

The lights will flash for a few seconds, and that will sync your controller to that particular PS3 system. This might help :D

try hitting the big PS3 button on the controller itself while its plugged in via USB to the PS3.
Thats what my friends and i do when they dont recognize each other..

From the Manual:
1. With your Playstation 3 game Console on and the ON/OFF switch on the bottom of the controller set to on. Plug in the USB receiver into a USB port in the Playstation 3. The LED will flash slowly.
2. Press the "connect" button on the receiver. The LED will flash rapidly.
3. Press the "menu" button on the controller. The four channel lights will flash rapidly until the sync process is done. When the sync process is done one of the channel lights will remain solidly lit.

Easy fix! Here's what you do:

Start with everything off, connect your PS3 remote to the cord and plug it into your PS3.

You are going to need something pretty thin, like a pencil lead, toothpick, or something semi-pointy with a decent size tip. I use a paperclip.

Turn your PS3 on by hand, running your finger over the power opening (Don't know the technical term for this hole...) and let it completely boot up

Once your main screen is loaded, press the center PS button on your remote. The 4 red lights will start flashing. Take the pointy end of your (paperclip/toothpick/other pointy object) and insert it into the tiny hole on the top back of the remote, press it in like your pushing an internal button. It should be right behind the 4 red lights - either way - it's the only little hole you have on it. Hold it in for a few seconds.

The controller will process, and if done correctly, will sync with your PS3.

Plus your controller in to the usb port in your ps3 once it connects press the PS button and it will sync and voila it's done. If you want to change it to a friend's console do the same with their console

i just sync both of mine to my ps3 it was giving me difficult at first, but i noticed the when u first put in ur usb wireless thing it starts to blink really fast and when u push the p3 button on the controller twice it flashes really fast. so i took out the wireless usb thing then put it back in so the light on it would be flashing really fast like it was searching for somthing, then press the p3 button twice to make the lights flash really fast aswell so it will sync with it. Thats how i got both of my controllers synced we my ps3. the lights on on the wireless usb thing and the controller lights must be flashing fast at the same time to sync.

Putting batteries in controller
Turn on the PS3
Turn on controller
Press the sync button, the LEDs will flash rapidly
Insert the usb that comes with the controller, the LEDs flash slowly
Press the home button on the controller
READY.

i had the same problem but with trial and error i came up with a soulution
1. Turn on the Playstation 3
2. Plug the dongle for the drum set into an open port on the PS3, the light will begin to flash slowly.
3. Hold down the button (where the light is flashing) on the dongle until it begin flashing very rapidly. Release the button and the light continues to flash rapidly.
4. Hold down the PS button on the drum set until the red light starts flashing rapidly.
5. Within a few seconds you will get a solid light on both the Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Set and the Playstation 3.

hi, i had this problem also. u have to plug in the usb receiver (looks like a usb storage that you would use for pc) into the front of pc. make sure you have batteries in controller turn it on and press home. red light will flash on usb receiver until controller is paired with it. hope this helps

Here's how to connect it tou your ps3. Mine works perfectly guys.

1. Turn your ps3 off without the USB key given with the controller
2. Make sure your controller is off.
3. Turn on the ps3
4. Turn on the controller
5. Press on the sync. button of your controller.
6. Plug the USB key into one of your ps3's port
7. When the light above your controller starting to flash slower, just pess the home button and your controller will be sync.

You can't turn on the ps3 with this controller. So turn it on manually than press the home button of the controller to turn the controller on.

If my post doesn't solve your problem, I really don't know how to solve it. I managed to connect mine so I hope it'll be the same for you!
