Question about Belkin (F5D7230-4) Router (587009)

1 Answer

I am trying to get my ventrilo server that i am hosting on my PC to work. I have a belkin F5D7230-4 and i entered the ventrilo port 3784 TCP with my computers iIP and checked "enable" and click "apply changes." I set up ventrilo correctly. It's not a password issue or an IP issue. I gave my friends the correct IP (not my private IP but the wan IP that shows up on ventrilo's "what's my IP" page), it even let them connect a couple times but as soon as they disconnect they cannot reconnect. If I put my machine in DMZ mode where it is outside the NAT firewall, then it works no problem at all. So, why isn't the virtual servers function on my router working?

It says there are no new updates.

  • bgorbet Nov 08, 2010

I checked the security log and it does look like I have something called DoS protection but I cannot find a way to turn it off on my routers webpage.

  • bgorbet Nov 08, 2010

The hardware version is in my original post (F5D7230-4), the firmware version is 4.03.03, the boot version is 2.01.03.

  • bgorbet Nov 08, 2010

I did, the link you gave me was broken but I used the firmware update feature on my router's page and it said that there was no new updates. I keep it updated regularly. There is no version number after "F5D7230-4."

  • bgorbet Nov 08, 2010

version 1444. It says it below the model number. There isn't a "v number."

  • bgorbet Nov 08, 2010

Thank you! I actually got it to work without having to turn off the firewall. The port forwarding page you showed me was the correct way, while the one I used before was incorrect.

Hey,

Try updating the firmware on the router.
http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/299/session/L3NpZC9MYkRjeHRlaw%3D%3D/kw/F5D7230-4/r_id/166/sno/0

start with that, and then set up the forwarding again.

Let me know once you have done that and lets see what else we can do.

Allright, do you have anykind of security features turned on, DDOS protection in the router. Also you should just keep using the DMZ and turn on a firewall on your machine, the windows firewall does a Fine job. or you can get Free Zonealarm to protect you.

Or double check that you got the port forwarding set up properly, they are tricky at times.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

which version of the router you got there? if you looked at the firmware page you must have noticed that there are alot of different versions send me the version of your router and I'll take a look at what settings you have available and what could help aside from dmz.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Hey, nope, it comes after the "F5D7230-4" v3 for example. Did you even check for the firmware?

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Could you check that V number from the bottom label of the router and get back to me as soon as possible. I'm leaving very soon and wouldn't want to leave you haging for hours waiting for a response.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

In the bottom label of the router?

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

    as above

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Thanks, you got the latest firmware. I'll get back to you in few minutes.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Here is your portforwarding guide for ventrilo server, check that you got it forwarded properly
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/p...

make sure you got both TCP and UDP ports open.

Also note that the server that you run has a user limit of 8 or 16 at best and that your internet connection can probably only handle around 4 with high quality codec and 8 with low quality codecs in use.

In the firewall settings of the router there is SYN flood protection on the firewall that is probably blocking their connection.

I don't see that you have any other option but to turn off the firewall.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Incase the portforwarding was already done correctly, then either use the DMZ or turn off the firewall in the router entirely. you will do fine with windows firewall but if you need to, you can get zonealarms free firewall protection, which runs great and is much easier on the programs.

  • Ekse Nov 08, 2010

Just letting you know incase you have further questions, comments or request. That I'm leaving the desk.

If you have any questions that you need to get answers on please send them directly to nikoht@gmail.com and I'll respond to them when I get back.

You will need to open the port you set the vent server to use via your router's configuration. You can find information on how to do this in your router's manual, or on the manufacturer's web site. This kind of thing is different from router to router.

I can't play my PS3 & Comp. at the same time with my router

try assigning a static IP address in the range of belkin router for your computer and PS3...that is 192.168.2.X (where X = 2 to 254)
the default gateway should be 192.168.2.1.... Log into your router and enable DMZ for the IP address assigned to your PS3...Goto Virtual servers in the router setup page and open the concerned ports for playing games in your computer(enter computer IP here in virtual servers)....the common gaming ports would be,
port 80 TCP,UDP
port 88 TCP,UDP
port 3074 TCP,UDP
port 53 TCP,UDP

click apply changes and try playing now... you can also restart the router for working better.... enjoy....

Ok i have 20 firends in conflict lgobal storm they live in difrent countries and once they were all online so i craeted a mach and 1 by 1 asked them to come and for all my friend it sayd server not avaible...

There can be particular issues related
to playing through a router or firewall,
including sharing your internet
connection via another PC. In order to
join or host a Conflict: Global Storm
game from behind a firewall you must
open the following ports (inbound and
outbound):

UDP ports 4658, 6500, 10010,
13139, 27900

TCP ports 4658, 6667, 28910,
29900, 29901, 29920

To host a game from behind a router
with NAT (Network Address
Translation), or a firewall, you will
need to enable ‘port forwarding’ on
the following ports to route data to the
IP address of your PC;

UDP ports 4658, 6500

TCP port 4658

If you continue to have problems
connecting to servers or creating
them, try bypassing your router or
firewall by connecting your PC directly
to your broadband connection.

If possible make sure you or your friends are not behind NAT or firewall. It is much easier to connect if you have all public IPs and not something starting with 192.168...

Do not use ALT+TAB and do not enter Windows when multiplayer is running. It will kill the connection to GameSpy servers that are needed even when you are creating server to your own computer.

Sometimes in the lobby the server just dies quietly and you need to the restart the whole game. You will notice this when players just stop coming to your server. This usually happens because you switched to Windows even for one second and sometimes it just happens without any reason.

Belkin N1 Vision - Virtual Servers Add button doesn't run ok

Ascertain what incoming ports you need to open and the IP address of the device / computer that you wish to forward to and set the ports up manually.
· Enter a description for the service
· Enter the inbound port ranges from WAN
· Enter TCP/ UDP type
· Enter IP address that the service is to be forwarded
· Enter the private port range (keep these the same as the incoming ports unless you are running multiple services ie 2 web servers on port 80)
· Click enable check box and save entry
· Repeat as required.

Can't connect to ventrilo

Make sure your router has the correct ports open on both your router and that Windows Firewall and/or your personal firewall has allowed access.

Vent needs port 3784 open on both UDP & TCP.

How do I Enable port forwarding to port 3866 UDP and TCP to get Ventrilo to work?

1. you don't need port forwarding to get the vent client to work.
2. if you're having issues doing port forwarding to your vent server, then you need to check out port forwarding instructions for your specific device - which can be found organized by manufacturer here.

Belkin 54 g wireless router....cant find on the net. need to port forward to host blizzard.net games HELP!

Make sure your private IP address is statically set.  Your public IP address is obtained from your ISP and is what other users will be connecting to.  You can not manipulate your public IP address so if your ISP is running DHCP, it is very possible that your public address is changing.  Also if you are frequently disconnecting your modem, it is possible your ISP is leasing you a new public IP address each time.  So try to keep things as static as possible.  As far as the battle net stuff.

Diablo, Warcraft II Battle.net Edition, and StarCraft:
Allow port 6112-6119 TCP and UDP out and in
Diablo II:
Allow port 6112 TCP out and allow established sessions in
Allow port 4000 TCP out (realm games)
Allow port 4000 TCP out and in (hosting open games only)
Warcraft III:
Allow port 6112 TCP out and allow established sessions in
Allow port 6112 TCP in (hosting custom games)
Allow port 6113-6119 TCP out and in (hosting custom games if you've changed the default port in the Options/Gameplay screen)
If you are still having problems after you open up the required ports, try opening 116(TCP) and 118(TCP). I don't really know if these ports are required or not.
I have had people tell me that opening up those two ports have helped them connect to battle.net.

Hope that helps.  For manipulating ports in your router I suggest consulting your user manual, or online FAQ.  Save your router config before applying any changes, and always remember, opening up ports subjects you to different types of security threats so be aware that is a risk you are taking.

No incoming and outgoing call

You may be behind a firewall or NAT. You can set an option that you are; if that still does not work, you may need to open some ports on the firewall.
Yahoo! Messenger uses a variety of ports.
Service Ports Chat & Messenger TCP Port 5050: Client Access only Insider/Room Lists TCP Port 80: Client Access only File Transfer TCP Port 80: Server Access.
Your ISP may block this port, as its used for web hosting.
You can change port in Messenger, Preferences, File Transfer. Voice Chat UDP 5000-5010
TCP 5000-5001: Client Access
If UDP Fails, TCP will be used instead, see below. WebCam TCP Port 5100: Client Access Super Webcam TCP Port 5100: Server Access P2P Instant Messages TCP Port 5101: Server Access
PMs between Buddys may not use the Yahoo! Server, but this is not a requirement.

World of Warcraft

Sounds like you need to do some port forwarding.

World of Warcraft communicates on port 3724 with the TCP protocol. The patching process requires port 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999. Once again to download the patches for World of Warcraft you should forward the following ports.

3724 TCP6112 TCP6881-6999 TCP

If you can not forward ranges of ports and are only planning on having one computer playing WoW, just forward ports 3724 TCP and 6112 TCP. The 6881-6999 port range is mainly used where multiple computers on a network may be trying to play WoW at the same time.

Ventrilo: From their web site: Click on the "Port number" input box and enter the servers port number. The program will automatically display the default port number of 3784 but you can change this to what ever the server needs it to be.

So forward 3784 or the port number you chose.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Motorola/SBG900/SBG900index.htm for a walk through on how to do the forwarding.

Hope that helps!
