Hi, if your washer is overfilling/overflows the tub, check these:

  • Water-inlet valve
  • Water-level switch

Water-inlet valve A defect in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off completely when the electricity has been turned off to it. If this occurs, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. In time, the water may accumulate substantially. If this happens, you need to replace the valve.

Water-level switch A defect--or an obstruction--in the water-level switch may mean that it can't tell the water to shut off. So the machine overflows. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It's usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. You can either clear any obstruction in the tube or replace the water-level switch.

I own a stacked unit and it seems like the water just keeps running until it overflows. If I move the knob manually it only spins and drains but no agitation.

Hello,

What i believe has happened with your washer is that the hose from the outer tub to water level switch has come off and the water level switch doesn't think it's full of water so it keeps filling. To check that remove the front panel from the washer and look for a clear rubber hose about diameter of a drinking straw ,its usually on the back of the tub and may need to fish around to fell it,you can cut off the very end of it (about 1/2") and reistall it onto the back of the tub, it may be very helpful to also take off the top of the washer. If you dont find it to be off it may be off at the water level switch in the control panel,to check that access the control panel by removing the diagonal panel and remove screws that hold on control panel be sure to look for and find the hidden screw in the plastic trim on the ends of the control panel. If that hose is on at both ends, replace the water level switch it attaches to in the control panel

Good luck, i hope this helps

Washing manchine water overflowing over the top

where the hoses go into the machines you will notice those valves are controled by solnoid switch thats what starts and stops water flow as you turn selector knob you should hear them click if that turn off water supply remove hoses from back of machine check if filter screen is in place and that there is no trash keeping valve open p.s switch from hot and cold to see which one needs to be replaced or repaired

Frigidaire was tub makes loud thump noise during spin cycle....

Need more information to make an accurate diagnosis, try removing the front panel (two screws at bottom) and visually check first the belt (all the way around) and then the springs that hold the tub suspended.
I would bet on the belt.

Washer will not stop filling up it overflows

Very simple. No parts needed! Remove the pressure tube that connects from the water level switch down to th bottom of the tub. Blow out the trash that has accumulated in the bottom of the tub and re connect the tube to the water level switch. Drain the washer. Retry.a097efc.jpg

My washer will not stop filling with water.

If it overflows from the tub then:
This can either be a fault in the fill sense tube( small tube connected to the bottom on the outer tub from the sensor at or near the top of the washer housing ) becoming blocked or broken or a fault with the sensor itself. This is inside of the machine and the lower cabinet will have to be opened to see it.

There should be two screws along the lower front edge of the washer cabinet. Remove these and the front of the cabinet will lift out towards you at a 45 degree angle an then unlatch. Unplug from power before opening the cabinet.

If it overfills from the drain hose:
then either the drain hose is too low and the water siphons out before it reaches the maximum or there is a tight seal at the drain hose to house drain port which will cause all the water to siphon out.
