Hello, Welcome to FixYa. The "Sd", "F2" for the older models or "F21" on your model of washer indicates the machine has detected too much soap or a obstruction in the drain process. Chances are the pump itself is being obstructed by debris or some other foreign object as opposed to being faulty, although the faulty pump can`t be ruled out...yet. This is also the reason for the "suds" message. Here`s how to check it and clean it... Though it being full of water may make it messy. A wet-dry shop vac is handy in this situation. If it is in a position that allows you too lean it back against something strong or a second set of hands it will help if tilted back almost all the way. Careful not to hurt the machine or yourself, and undo the fill hoses and drain hose. **Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first** 1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws. 2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removable filter. ( ** this is were a wet-dry shop vac and towels come in handy, also the use of the removed panel as a catch pan is beneficial...but you may still get wet ) 3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removable filter. 4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to verify the unit drains and spins now. ( If the problem still exist`s the Sd, "F2" or "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the hose/rubber bellows from pump to tub...back-flow ball...for other obstructions ). 5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a couple hundred bucks ! Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business. **NOTE: if this still fails to remedy the error or if it returns immediately during the next drain you may require a pump unfortunately. **This however can also be caused by the back-flow ball inside the bellows which connects the tub to the pump. There is a large clamp which secures it to the tub, but if you remove it to clean out all the dirt built up inside, make sure you get it good and secure when putting it back.** Let me know how it goes and if you require further assistance. It works. Thanks for the information. To drain the water in the pump and the hose, I removed the front red rubber pump- retainer then I laid a 21 liter kitchen garbage bag outside the washer then put the open end of the bag under the pump and pull up as high as I could then unscrewed the filter 1/2 turn and let the water drained slowly until the bag volume enough to handle then closed the filter and removed the bag and empty the water to the sink. Repeat until the water completely drained. Removed the hoses on the pump by pressing the hose clamp. Cleared the obstructions inside pump. reassembled all parts.... Everything ready to go. Good luck!

F21 Error Code on Whirlpool Duet & Kenmore Elite Front Loader Washers

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F21” error code.

“F21” is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

  1. First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
  2. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
  3. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
  4. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

I think Ihave a wfw 9200, the door lock light is flashing and cannot be cancelled. There is a f21 fault code flashing. HOW can I open the door ?

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a F21 problem with a Whirlpool Duet washer, that indicates the F21 error means an excessive drain time.

As for the door locked issue, it is a by-product of the F21 error. Make sure you get the water out before attempting to open the door manually or it could be messy.

To Manually unlock the door lock system:

1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.

2. Remove the lower toe panel.

3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly.

4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear-drop shaped tab.

5. Gently pull the tab down about ¼" or until a click is heard.
6. The door may now be opened.

If you follow the link to my solution to this error you should be fixed up in no time.
