The fuse blew on my emerson microwave oven and I replaced it. This fuse has now blown. What would be causing this? Thanks....Lee

Usually what happenes is the magnetron is dead, or is dieing. It is using too much power due to overheating, or it is just worn. This is a common thing for older microwaves. take the case back off, and clean the fins on the magnetron this will fix the overheating problem. Be careful. let your microwave sit for about an hour after being plugged in. This lets the capacitors that store dangerous voltages leak off. also make sure the new fuses are ceramic fuses that are rated for 15 amps at 250VAC Do not use glass fuses! You can find a new magnetron on ebay, or on the internet some where. You will need a DAEWOO 2M218H MFI magnetron. I just tore my microwave apart, and realized I have an exact replacement for it. I just swapped them out and they both work. cool. but yeah. that's what is most likely causing it. Good luck!

My H5640 microwave has stopped heating food and cuts out after 40 secs - is there a reset button or is it a "bin and buy another one" job

Sounds like it's time for a new oven. The magnetron tube that makes the microwaves is overheating and causing the safety thermostat to cut off power. Normally, with the cost of the replacement tube and repair labor, it's more economical to buy a new oven.

No power everything was fine then nothing when i got home is there any fuses to check in the microwave

There is a fuse under the cover, as well as a couple of safety thermostats that can cause a dead oven. It may also be that the power transformer for the control circuit board has failed. I've seen several Sharp ovens where the transformer died because of power surges. This would cause no display and no functions even though the oven has power. Also, did you make sure the outlet your oven is plugged into has power? If it's a GFI outlet it may need to be reset, or a circuit breaker in your electric service panel may have tripped.

Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!

Sometimes while using the oven it appears that after a while the heating stops ( due to overheating )and all functions switches die. After some time (cooling down) the oven can be used again. Could it be...

It's far more likely that one of more cooling vents has insufficient space around it; the instruction book will tell you what the clearances should be.

If none of the vents are obstructed then it's likely that one of the oven cooling fans has failed.

The last item to suspect after eliminating other causes is the overheat protection device.

Have Spacemaker XL 1800, which overheated tonight (accidentally set "heat" rather than "timer" :-() and went "dead"/completely black. It is now cool; I have unplugged and replugged but nothing is...

usually these units reset automatically after a shock! It takes time for the over load circuit to reinstate power. If by 5 hours you have no luck , then the internal ceramic fuse has blown ( under top of cover)

Maytag microwave overheated.

There is a fuse that should be easy to get to behind the control panel.  Will need to take the grill off first to get control panel off.  Make sure unit is unplugged first.  There are high voltage parts in a microwave so you should have a professional do the work if you are not comfortable with it.  Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.
