Question about Gateway FPD1965 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Open Question

Have an older PC - Compaq Presario SR1055 CL. Bought it new a long time ago, and it came with it's own 17" display (monitor). I picked up a working Gateway 19" monitor so I've changed displays. It was free, or my choice would have a 26" :-). No matter what options I chose in the control panel display tab, to change the resolution, it is still fuzzy. It also doesn't seem to recognize the different monitor b/c the monitor tab still shows the Compaq FP7317 display. Instructions need to be fairly easy, as I am not a graduate of a computer science degree, but I am somewhat technical, if it doesn't involve getting into stuff like registry changes :-) Can you help?

SOURCE: Green Light, no Display - Gateway FPD1730

It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. With the computer on and the monitor power LED green shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the monitor this is usually and economically repairable problem. Mac's a bit differant than windows. To change your screen resolution first change the monitors refresh rate to something like 75 hertz. Than you can change the Screen resolution. Thats how it is done on a windows machine. Than again your Mac might need a video card software update.

SOURCE: I need a driver for gateway 17 in. wide screen monitor FPD1775W

You might want to consider a default settings reset. To refresh or reset the monitor back to default settings, unplug the monitor's power cord, and then press the the power button for five (5) seconds to drain any residual power. Plug in and then turn on the monitor. The default settings load.

Additional information about your monitor is available on the Gateway support website.

Either your LCD Video Cable is not plugged in snuggly or the monitor is slowly going bad. The fact that you can see the images on an external monitors says your Video Graphics Card is working fine. You'll need to disassemble the laptop to get to the cables. Get a quote from your local computer shops, then try the guys at: http://www.generalsystemsconsulting.com Most times they will fix it and ship it back by Fedex or UPS cheaper than any quote you obtained including the shipping.

It will not work with any 17" display ( tried 3 )

Well they would be correct. There is no way that would make any sense and should be impossible. My only suggestion would be to check your screen resolution under display preferences and match it to the resolution of the 17 inch display. Hope that helps

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

New graphics card problems with my Presario SR5350F...

Make sure you plug in any auxiliary power cables are are required for the video card.

Is the card used. Has it ever shown signs of life?

Go into windows via integrated graphics and install the latest drivers.

After that I would go into your bios with integrated graphics and turn off intergrated graphics. Look around if there's like a setting that's like switch to PCIx graphics or something. After the restart try to use your monitor though your video card.

I have a Compaq Presario 5420 computer and bought

You'll have to update your drivers for your video card by going to the Mfg. website and seeing if they have any later drivers than you're currently using. In my case, the 1440x900 monitor was recognized when I downloaded later updates, though upon initial installation it wasn't recognized. My card is an ATI from about 6 years ago.

First, we'll try setting the correct screen resolution. Go to an area of your desktop that has nothing on it and right-click with your mouse. Select the "settings" tab. See if your monitor is described properly in the drop-down box. If not, you may have to install drivers for it to get the proper resolution. Take a look at the slider and see if you can slide it to the proper native resolution for your monitor.

You can always try uninstalling the current driver. Go to control panel | system, click on the hardware tab, then click on the device manager button, expand "Display adapters" then delete your default display device. The best then then is to reboot Windows and let it find your display adapter. Possible that it will boot into the proper resolution, but if not, follow the above directions again, but this time don't delete the driver, instead right-click and select, "update driver." Let's see if that works for you.

OK All these Compaq's have a Power Supply problem, or a Horizontal Voltage problem.. meaning they are on the way out. The SMPSU's in these units often fail along with the Horizontal Drive Circuitry. I think it is time for a new one? Repair of such a unit would barely be "Ecconomical" IMHO.
