How to fix my xbox 360 red lights.

Here is a step-by-step guide to fixing the red lights error on your Xbox 360:

Step One - Contact Microsoft

Without knowing the exact details of your console, when and where you purchased it, and where you live, I cannot tell you for sure if you still have a warranty on your console. However, if your console is less than 2 years old you should be in with a chance at getting it fixed or replaced under warranty.

If you live in the USA then ring 1-800-4MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269) If you are not in the USA then visit and find your local service provider (this will be available under the support section of the website)

When you get hold of Microsoft tell them that you have the red lights error on your console, and state the following:

1. Whether there are any extra error codes on your console (like the e73 or e74)
2. How long you have had your console for, when you purchased it, and from where.
3. Provide your details when requested so that you can have a return box sent to you.

When you receive the return box, package up your console (minus the hard drive, remove any disks from the drive, and don't send back your controllers either) and send it back to Microsoft. You should then receive a refurbished console that is working properly within a couple of weeks.

If your warranty has expired then Microsoft are under no legal obligation to fix your console, and they will charge you around $150 to have it fixed. If you can get it fixed for free, take this route, if not then continue to Step 2.

Step 2 - Fixing Your Xbox 360 Yourself

Now that the "red ring of death" error has entered the lexicon of all modern gamers, you have much more resources at your disposal to be able to fix it yourself. Provided you can use a screwdriver, and can confidently follow video instructions then you can fix it yourself. If not you are going to have to pay to get someone else to do it.

I would recommend that you purchase an X-Clamp repair kit which is an inexpensive way to ensure you have the parts required to perform the job safely. These are very common and are extremely effective.

The following video instructions very accurately describe and show how to use virtually any X Clamp kit:

Incorrectly using an X-Clamp repair kit could damage your console and leave you even more out of pocket. If you don't understand the above instructions 100%, or have never had any kind of "hands on" technical work before, you should seriously consider having Microsoft fix your console.

You could also consider using the heat gun method that is described in most Xbox 360 repair guides- this is less likely to work successfully and permanently (although success rates are still around 80%) However, it is much easier to do than using the X-Clamp, and therefore warrants your attention.

DO NOT attempt the "bodge job" repair known as the towel wrap trick. This may work temporarily but will result in permanent damage to your console, and could even spark an electrical fire.

By following the instructions above you will be able to fix your Xbox 360 and get rid of the red lights.

Has 3 red blinking lights

Red Ring of Death: Red Flashing XBOX 360 Lights Explained Common Xbox 360 Red Ring Errors The XBOX has a reported 54.2% failure rate which makes the XBOX 360 gaming consoles' worst "lemon" to date. If you find yourself with the red flashing lights error, --> lg.php?category_id=15&content_type=article&content_type_id=2663399&key_page=682482001924178892&site_id=1&bannerid=11791&campaignid=3153&zoneid=23&loc=1& follow this guide to try and pinpoint the problem with your XBOX 360.

1 Red Ring = Serious Hardware Failure
I f your XBOX 360 has a 1 red flashing light error, you're more than likely in big trouble. The 1 flashing red ring of light can be due to GPU or CPU failure, RAM overheating, a DVD drive error, or some serious problem with your Xbox 360's internal components. The most common 1 flashing red ring lights error is the E74 error. The E74 error is no easy fix for the Xbox 360 and usually has to be repaired by the manufacturer [though some have managed to repair it with the heat gun trick - but be careful]

2 Red Rings = Overheating
Mostly all red flashing lights on the Xbox 360 rings are due to overheating in some way or other, but the 2 red rings singles out overheating as the main issue. When doing the X-Clamp fix the 2 red rings are required to fix the Xbox 360 by overheating the CPU. If you get this Xbox 360 error without doing the X-Clamp fix, you probably just need to let your Xbox 360 cool down for a few hours. Make sure that all vents aren't blocked off and that your Xbox fans are working properly in order to repair this problem.

3 Red Rings = Basic Hardware Failure
The most common error on the Xbox 360 is the 3 red rings - also known as the Red Rings of Death (RRoD). This flashing lights problem is the main cause of Xbox 360's 54.2% failure rate. The 3 red flashing lights can be due to lots of different errors but is mainly due to the X-Clamps in your Xbox 360 and overheating. Fortunately, lots of people were able to fix this issue using the X-Clamp and heat gun fix. Follow this list of error codes to find out the real issue with the 3 red rings because there are quite a few of them.

Xbox 360 repair 3 red lights

The 3 red lights issue is known as the red ring of death(or RROD)
This is caused by the x clamps used to hold down the processor.
The x clamps cause to much pressure which causes the xbox 360 to think it is over heating. Microsoft has issues a extended warranty for RROD issue. You can reach Microsoft by calling 1800 my xbox. The link below is to a Youtube video walk through on how to resolve the issue.

I hope the info listed above has helped in some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

Hello my xbox 360 has got 3 red led how can i mend it

Yes, the three red flashing lights mean nothing else than "Red Ring of Death" (general hardware failure). You can post your xbox to home rapair "centers" but I wouldn't recomend that. When my x360 broke for the first time I sent it to some guy who was supposed to be "pro". I waited for 3 weeks an end up paying way to much than I should. It broke down again after a year and I decided to tray and repair it myself.

The most common mistake that beginners make is that they buy tutorials and repair sets from diffrent websites. (Diferent repair guides require diffrent repair tools). I tried a few of them and I think this X360 Fix Kit is simply the best thing you can get for the price. You'll get evreything you need with repair kit and easy to foolow lessons. Good luck.

Scratched Xbox 360 motherboard

Usually if a motherboard has been scored or damaged.
( tracks or resistors/capacitors dislodged et,c )
The board is in the Bin. ( scrap ) unless the damage can be repaired. The RROD Or red-ring of death. Is usually due to the x-clamps fitted to the console initially, by the manufacturer.
Replacing the x-clamps, with a kit ( bolts/washers thermal Compound ) And 4 x heatpads recommended. Can cure the RROD. And in my own experience the 1 red light And E74 error.

Bottom line, if the boards scratched. it,s in the Bin.

Red circle lights ?

its probably the 3rrod (3 red rings of death) and is a very common fault with the 360. if its still under warranty Micorosft will fix this free of charge for you. they may still repair it free even if its out of warranty, you need to ring them and tell them you got the dreaded 3rrod!.

if they wont replace it the only way to fix this would be replace the heatsink paste, replace the x-clamps holding your heatsinks to the mainboard and apply the team xecuter 3rrod repair kit.

if you need more help just ask

Hi, I fix xbox 360's, the three red lights is usually caused by a bad connection between the gpu solder balls, if you still have the microsoft security sticker beneath the faceplate then microsoft will repair it up to three years since you bought the console. There is a lot of false information on the net about "The X-clamp fix", it will get your console working again, but it is only a temporary fix, results vary between 3 months to a year if you are very lucky, I have came up with another method which has been successful on a test unit for about 6 months now! Just remember, all the x-clamp kits that you can buy off ebay are temporary fixes, none of them are permanent as they claim!
