Question about Dell Inspiron 531s Desktop Computer

1 Answer

CD Drive not working - doesn't open or close on its own. I use an open paper clip to to this. Now doesn't recognize disc when inside and does not play. I can't find it on the file list, either.

You can consider this puppy broke, however it doesn't hurt to try some-thing to get it going again. Open your computer case and write down the make and model number down of your CD drive exactly. Type this into google plus firmware. Hence this will search for the latest firmware for you CD drive. Download the file and execute the install. Follow the instructions. This will install a piece of code to the memory chip of that CD drive. Must be exactly the firmware for that particular drive or it will be forever lost.

The other alternative is to purchase a replacement drive, it's a little easier and less complicated.

All the best, Thumbs up!!!

A 2year old put a train ticket inside the dvd/cd drive and now its stuck

There are two ways toopen the CD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work.
Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject.
If this does not work then you can manually open the CD drive tray by -
Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drivetray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive traypops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CDdisc.
If you continue having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD driveis faulty and needs replacing.

CD DOOR WON'T OPEN

Just below the CD/DVD tray there is a tiny hole. Insert a straighten paper clip in this hole and gently push the paper clip until the CD/DVD tray pops out. You can now pull the tray out until it is in the fully opened position to remove the disc.
Try pushing the eject button to see if the tray closes, then push the eject button to see if the tray opens.
If this foes not work then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and it needs to be replaced.

Computer won't start up - says file missing or corrupt: \windows\system 32\config\system. cannot open cd=rom to use original set-up CD

That folder contains all of your Windows files, so your operating system is no good anymore. So you have to reinstall Windows. It sounds like you have the disc so we just need to get that drive open. To get your CD drive open, you have to use the override system. On most CD drives, there's a little hole on the front. Sometimes it's hard to see. What you need to do it get a paper clip and straighten it out. Then stick the paper clip in that tiny hole. Keep going in until you feel a little catch, then keep pressing. This will mechanically open you CD drive. Just put the disc in and close it up again. Hopefully your reinstallation of Windows will work out. Best of luck!

Acer Aspire 5535 will not recognize disc inside, so I cannot eject it. How can I eject it now?

Hi, the disc drive has an emergency eject hole on the front. With the laptop switched off, insert a paper-clip (or similar thin object) into the hole until the cd pops out. This is number 4 in the picture below:

I placed a cd on my cd holder and the cd fell off inside the processor. How can I get the cd out?

Use paper clip and stick it through a small just outside the cd drive (should be next to the cd button where you press to eject the cd out). Stick paper clip through this small hole until the cd door open and gently take cd disc out. Good luck

I suspect this is more a mechanical problem than a power or software problem

I suggest powering down your PC,

Laying it down so the CD draw is flat,

Fashioning yourself a home made cd draw ejector device (otherwise known as a straightened paper clip),

Pressing the paper clip quite firmly into the tiny hole next to the CD Draw (it should unlock and open slightly)

Carefully and gently pulling the CD Draw out just enough to see inside and find out where the disc has got to

Physically maneouvering your whole PC to get the disc back onto the tray where it should be

Then you can either manually pull the CD Draw out and remove the disc or start the PC while it's laid down flat and see if the CD Drive auto closes and begins to spin now the disc is properly seated

If your PC doesn't have the tiny hole on the front of the Drive or if the CD Disc cannot be seen at all or cannot be persuaded back onto the tray then it's time to start opening up your PC case and removing the CD Drive for more attention

- NOTE if your PC is still under warranty Opening the Case may invalidate that warranty, check this before you proceed -

Treat Everything Gently and Good Luck!

CD drine issue

To manually open the CD Drive, straighten a paper clip and insert it into a tiny hole in the front of your CD drive and push the paper clip gently into the drive and the tray should then pop open.
Open and close this several times, then insert a disc into the drive and see if it will read the disc.
If not the drive is dead and needs to be replaced.
