My emachine. won't boot up Say select media. boot press any key It a black screen. Than press control. alt. press delete

You would typically see this if your hard drive has died. A replacement drive is not expensive, but you will need to install Windows again, and your data is likely lost. Data can be recovered from a dead drive, but it can be very expensive. I paid $1200 to have thousands of e-mails recovered a couple years ago.

Lost Windows password:

  • Login as Administrator. Try with no password (load safe mode if you don't see Administrator). Press F8 during boot to access Safe Mode. XP only.
  • Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.
  • Use 3rd party software to remove password. Like http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html
  • Free software option would be Hirens Boot CD. This one is command prompt only. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ Must follow instruction exactly.

I FORGOT MY PASSWORD ALREADY? WHAT CAN I DO?

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator to log in once you have your computer running again you have to take control (administrator)control panel user accounts on the users tab, click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there or if your computer has a system restore you can restore it to an earlier date which will have your personal settings

also you might try

when you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there

also

control panel user accounts

on the users tab, click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there

hope this helps

My daughter recently enabled the password that she entered when she set up the EEEPC over a month ago. Unfortunately she doesn't remember what that password was! Now it boots no farther than the enter...

try F2 you didnt say whether it was set in the bios or in the initial configuration pages.
However a F9 whilst booting takes you to restore the factory settings(every other boot) goto restore factory settings--press "E"-- choose restore image--press "B"-- then try to reconfigure the first few pages of the initialising programs, date, time, location etc.

Windows won't boot after an OS upgrade

The board is probably good but I've seen this many times when folks try to upgrade old computers. The drivers included with XP aren't working on your machine. It's not working with W2K because when you formatted the HD with XP it removed the IBM label from the HD. You should use your recovery disks to restore the drive.
