Question about Hitachi 61SWX10B 61" Rear Projection Television
You just need to purchase and replace the projection bulb. That will restore the brightness back to factory new. The price should be about $90. Replacing the bulb isn't that hard but can be a bit difficult (actually annoying) if you have never done it before. If you can get a service guy to do it for you it will be worth the money. Figure about an hours labour for that.
I don;t know your location so can't help you find a repair shop. If you call either the place that sold it or any place that sells them they should be able to tell you who ro where to contact. This is a repair you can do yourself if you are comfortable with it. The bulb is screwwed down with 4 screws and there should only be one connector on that model. If you take your time and keep track of how you got in and what you took apart first then its pretty simple. It can be a bit daunting the first time which is why I would suggest a repair shop if you have any qualms.

I could not track the model, some of the number in the model number may be wrong.
I think we are talking about a rear projection LCD TV here.
One reason for darker picture is a defective lamp, but that would be quite unusual. More commonly the problem can be with the LCD, or with the light tunnel, that is the channel that project light on the display. A common cause for a dark shadow that can cover part of the picture, or the whole picture is a detached mirror in the licht tunnel, that is part of the light engine.
The TV must be disassembled and tested to find the problem.
