Question about Hitachi 61SWX10B 61" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

We have a Hitachi HDTV model 32UXD10SA. Recently we have noticed that the screen is becoming darker. This morning when we turned it on, the screen was so dark that we could barely make out the picture. We have checked to make sure that the brightness control had not been changed. In fact, it is all the way up now and still has a very dark picture!

Ginko, you are correct about the model number. I transposed the X and D. The sticker on the back of the set reads 32UDX10SA. I have researched it some on line and Hitachi only shows the 10S variety. I am not sure what the A respresents.

Do you have any other suggestions, given the correct model number? We live in a remote area and are trying to decide whether to spend the money on a repair or just buy a new one!

You just need to purchase and replace the projection bulb. That will restore the brightness back to factory new. The price should be about $90. Replacing the bulb isn't that hard but can be a bit difficult (actually annoying) if you have never done it before. If you can get a service guy to do it for you it will be worth the money. Figure about an hours labour for that.

I don;t know your location so can't help you find a repair shop. If you call either the place that sold it or any place that sells them they should be able to tell you who ro where to contact. This is a repair you can do yourself if you are comfortable with it. The bulb is screwwed down with 4 screws and there should only be one connector on that model. If you take your time and keep track of how you got in and what you took apart first then its pretty simple. It can be a bit daunting the first time which is why I would suggest a repair shop if you have any qualms.

Hi.

I could not track the model, some of the number in the model number may be wrong.

I think we are talking about a rear projection LCD TV here.

One reason for darker picture is a defective lamp, but that would be quite unusual. More commonly the problem can be with the LCD, or with the light tunnel, that is the channel that project light on the display. A common cause for a dark shadow that can cover part of the picture, or the whole picture is a detached mirror in the licht tunnel, that is part of the light engine.

The TV must be disassembled and tested to find the problem.

Tv turns on and off randomly

A number of possible reasons for this but clarify if you can:

Turns on by itself?
When turned on it will sometimes turn off and then back on?

When was the lamp last replaced in this unit?
Has the screen become somewhat darker recently?
What if any other issues have you noticed?

Lastly is the signal for the set from a cable or Satellite box?

let me know as much as you can, the problem is not real common so as much information as possible is needed.

How to fix my hitachi 65 tv

If you are saying that the picture is getting darker and you have already tried to adjust the picture through the menu feature on your TV then it is more than likely the cooling fluid around the CRT tubes. Over time the fluid in these tubes gets cloudy and causes your TVs picture to become dull and distorts the color. You can google tv repair kits .com and I believe they will have a kit for your model.

This is a LCD projection TV and will need to have the light engine replaced. Hopefully you have a warranty on it or it is still covered by Panasonic.
