Question about Acer TravelMate 2300 Notebook

1 Answer

Wireless connection up until 2 weeks ago, I was able to access the Internet through my d-link. Two weeks ago, I could no longer see any wireless networks. I have talked at length with both Shaw (modem) and dlink (router) tech supports. After hours of trouble shooting, it would appear that the problem is with the computer - Acer travelmate 4220, thoughts??

That unit has a driver problem, for the usb or ethernet, you might be able to re-install the specific drivers on their web site, and retry it there, unless the wireless in pci based and the you have a driver problem there, if you can use the ethernet connection then it's usb or pcmci, try that, if that doesn't work you need a tech to look at it.

hope this helps you out, let me know

I have components disappearing. Specifically: 1.

Have you tried to re-download the drivers?

Also, how old is your PC and has it been slowing down? It is possible that certain sectors of your PC are becoming corrupted and can no longer be read so they are no longer showing up/functioning. I would also make sure it is not a virus that is trying to change Root files, etc, which might restrict your access to certain features on your PC like audio, Wireless connection, etc

Worst case scenario, you can always go to a backup time/savepoint in your PC and see if the drivers are there. If they are still there, then it was probably not hardware (assuming they work and stay), but if you go back to a good time in your PC's health and the drivers are still not there/functioning it is probably hardware.

Network Adapter will not work on Startup

Attach a Ethernet cable to the laptop, Open Device Manager, Network Adapters, Uninstall the Wireless adapter, reboot, Allow the software to apply the generic driver, try to connect to wireless network. Post results.

I have installed a new wireless router all the devices including I pad iPhone ps3 have no problems connecting to the net via wireless however my compaq cq60 has had nothing but problems. First it was...

There are a few things thatcan cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move thewireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locatethe wireless router higher up.2. Have you secured yourwireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change thedefault password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID,and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC addressfiltering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s toconnect to your wireless router.3. You could be gettinginterference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers andcomputers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, betterstill connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted PowerSupply). 4. Check the channels ofthe wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcastchannel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currentlyused but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interferencewith your wireless router from other wireless routers and accesspoints in your area.

Can't access internet wireles router says connected hp is a vista

If Nothing else changed in the last 2 weeks, such as a new router, or other hardware changes, AND it just started happening, I suggest you do a "system restore" to a date BEFORE the problem started.
This should correct the problem, and if you did any updates or other software installations, you will need to re install them.

Finally, one option prior to system restoring is to turn off the wireless router (unplug it) and then wait a minute. Plug back in. Then turn on your computer. You can try this first if you haven't already..
Good luck..

My Quick Access Web button on my Vaio VGN-NW26M no longer works, it was o.k. for approx 2 weeks and then nothing, my screen message says I have no internet connection and the browser cannot find the host...

quick access web button depends on the settings you configured when you first set it up.
  • if you set it up to work when it is connected to a network thru wifi, it will always look for a specific network or wifi
  • if you change connection or different network, then access the quick access web again then change the network settings
  • if you use LAN/ethernet, access the quick access web again and enable the LAN configuration

Wireless network access: 1 laptop fine, other not so much

Check the wireless card on the PC first. Go to "My Computer" then "Device Manager" and check to se if all the hardware is ok.

Use Control panel/netconnections to check to see if you still have a wireless connection and if it works. Also check "My Network Places." Try re-installing the drivers.

As a last resort....try System Restore if it's an XP or Vista system. Remember - using system restore will return the PC to an earlier time but you could lose some stuff so decide first.

Loses network connection or says low connectivity.

hmmm... need to see if this is from the router end or the problem is your laptop. phone company replaced the router-- did they stick around long enough to see you connect to it with your laptop?

how long has the connection worked properly between the wireless laptop and your basement router?

can you visit a starbucks or whatnot to see if you can surf with your latop (i.e. it's not your laptop wireless card)

can you get a friend to come over to try your router with their wireless laptop?

what if you stay just in teh basement -- does the connection drop at all?
