None of the cartridges can be empty if you want to print.
Even if you only want to print black, just black you need to
replace the other three cartridges.
Yes color laser printing is expensive.

Can it (HP deskjet F380 all in one) still print with only color cartridge or only black cartridge ? Or Should two cartridges remain together to print even one is empty ? Thanks

the answer to your question is yes,it can still print with only one cartridge installed.
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, and the quality of your printouts is not a concern, you can still print in ink-backup mode. Consider the following guidelines before printing in ink-backup mode:

  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
  • If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the product will print more slowly and the colors in the printouts will vary.
press OK button to clear the error message like cartridge missing after removing one cartridge.

No color

This shows that the Color Ink Cartridges are empty.
Make sure that the cartridges are not re-filled, remanufactured.
Make sure they are genuine.
Check for the expiration date on the back of the Cartridges.
If they are empty, refilled, remanufactured, and expired, please replace.

Want to use only black cartridge

If you mean you want to operate the prnter with the color cartridge pulled out, the printer won't print. But it will print with an empty cartridge. Just use the printer software and specify that you only want to print black and not color. there is a place you can do that.

Can I disable the color? It's empty but black is full

even if it is empty, most printers require that you have the color cartridge installed. you have to go into the printer settings and change it there to print only black copy.

Why can't I select "black print cartridge only" in printing preferences/color tab on my HP Deskjet F380

If you remove the color cartridge the printer should function in black and white, though It will constantly nag you to install a color cart.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

F380

You are using HP's cartridge with the smallest output . So if you are printing 80 pages of text, you will have a problem by the time you reach 95 or 100 pages. If you are printing in color, you only have 1ml/color. Meaning 3 colors. But in order to print a red, it will combine a magenta and yellow to product 1 color. So 3 colors doesn't mean 3 ml worth of colors. Effectively you may only be able to print 10-20 pages of color then your cartridge is empty. The black cartridge has about 4-5ml of ink. So if you print a lot I suggest you get another printer.
