1. Check the disk on another computer and see if you get response from the disk. a. if you do then this may be your cd rom or DVD read/writer is not working properly. b. If not, then the cd make be a corrupted copy. 2. Call the manufacturer and ask for a new copy since you have just purchased the printer. They should be happy to send you a new copy of the installing software. 3. Take the unit and all it's compnents back to the place of purchase and inform them of the issue and request a new printer with a new copy of the installing cd and get assurance from the store manager that if it doesn't work can you bring the unit back and get a refund.
If you connect and turn on the printer then turn on your computer it should start the found new hardware wizard. don't do anything until or IF it asks you to install the disc, the make sure you direct it to find the files under the correct drive letter which is usually "D" or "E" .Good luck, .Dana
no my riend , is your computer who has to recognize your printer by installing the printer's driver. Use the sodtware Cd who came with your printer and install it in your computer . it will works very good. if you don't have that Cd go online and download one. Thank you
How long ago did you purchase the printer? Does it have the "Certified for Windows Vista" logo on the box? If not, it won't work with Vista at all.
I checked Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List and it says the HP Photosmart C3100 series is *certified* with Vista, however it does not say it *works* with Vista.
Per the link, the driver may be part of the Windows Update. Give that a try, as well as HP's website. Otherwise you may need to take it back and exchange it for a Vista-certified printer.
Let me know how it works out!
